THE ESSENTIALS

1959 Lincoln Continental Mark IV Convt- 68k Mi. Calif. Car, Older Resto.

This 1959 Lincoln Continental Convertible Mark IV is offered from our inventory of fine collectible automobiles with great pride.  This is a 68,000 mile California car that was professionally restored, as we are told, by Gregory at Lincoln Parts International in Perris, Ca.  This fine motorcar would be welcome at concours events or regional tours.  It is a wonderfully driving and sharp looking car.

With only 2,195 Mark IV convertibles made these have become very rare in recent years, especially restored example such as this.  This car is as well equipped but does not have air conditioning.  It has a new white convertible power operated top with the logo embossed, power brakes, power steering, six way power seat, power windows, power vent windows, power rear window, power antenna,  beautiful but beige vinyl interior (the correct pattern but it should be leather), new carpeting, side skirts, town and country radio and the magnificent 430 cubic inch V8 engine delivering 350 horse power. With a 131” wheelbase, this is the largest production car produced in America in 1959 and drives accordingly, very smooth.  This motorcar has wide white wall radial tires for better handling and a smoother ride.  This motorcar has been updated with wide white wall radial tires for increased performance and safety.  As you might imagine, this model was a favorite of the celebrities back in the 50’s, in fact singer Neil Young still has his today.

A unique feature in 1959 on this car is the hard top look of the convertible top and the amazing way it goes up and down.  A single control quickly converts this magnificent convertible from a closed to an open car.  A motor driven rear deck opens wide.  The rigid metal-framed rear window of solid glass (retractable with top) slides down and out of sight.  The soft top folds away and the deck panel silently closes, leaving the smooth unbroken lines of a large sports car with none of the usual cloth piled behind the rear seat.  To return the top to its closed position requires but another touch.  It even locks itself in place on the windshield mounts, automatically….a feature exclusively for the continental convertibles in 1959.

The values of these Continental convertible coupes have held strong in recent years.   RM auction sold a comparable 1960 convertible from the Cappy Collection in 2006 for $145,750.  We offer here a tremendous value for a car that represents Americana.  This will undoubtedly prove to be an appreciating investment for its next owner.

There are very few California, rust free, low mileage Lincoln Mark IV’s.  This is an excellent value for a true collector.  Being a restored 68,000 mile California car, this car is in condition to use for touring, car shows or concours event.  Although in our opinion it will not win its class at concours event, it would be welcome on most all show fields.

The NADA value for this motorcar is as follows: NADA Price Guide. The motorcar offered here is ready for showing or touring.  More comprehensive photo gallery and video coming soon.

Interesting Fact: The Lincoln Continental is a full-size luxury vehicle that derives its name from the European “continental” styling elements that were added during production. Edsel Ford, son of Henry Ford, requested a personal vehicle to take on vacation in an attempt to attract Lincoln buyers. This directly led to the Lincoln Continental model line being produced.   All in all, 10 generations have been produced across 9 decades. Production has occurred from 1939 to 1948, 1956 to 2002, and 2016 to 2020. The first generation of the Continental was made to fit the new automotive segment for personal luxury cars. This model was also the final American vehicle line to use a factory produced V12 engine.    Current models of the Lincoln Continental now have the longest wheelbase since their 1979 models. They are also powered by a V6 engine, rather than a V12, but they still produce around 400 horsepower. The Lincoln Continental is still viewed as a luxurious vehicle that offers a smooth and reliable ride!
