1970 Ford Mustang BOSS 302, Restored

This is a one prior owner older restoration with the present California ownership spanning about 29 years. This is a multiple show winning, fabulous driving example. It has covered 15,000 miles since being fully rebuilt and restored, it has never had any body damage or rust and has all of its original sheet metal. The engine was carefully rebuilt using all new and correct BOSS 302 parts with the single exception of a non-numbers matching four-bolt main block.

This is not a concours contending trailer queen. It is in very nice condition ensuring that it will continue to perform well in car shows and is a joy to drive.

This car was bought new at Tulsa Ford in Tulsa, OK. The car was traded in at the dealership in 1981 where the current California owner bought it on the spot during a trip to visit his father. He had been searching for just the right BOSS 302 and had looked at about 20 BOSS 302’s before buying this car. He was specifically seeking an unmolested original BOSS that had no modifications, accidents or other issues. He found what he was looking for in Tulsa. The car has been registered in California since 1981.

It has the wide ratio four speed top loading manual transmission, the 350 traction lock rear end (the rare Nodular “N” rear end), power disc brakes and the Magnum 500 wheels. The car originally had no power assisted steering which has now been added to make it more practical to drive and enjoy.

The car has been taken down to bare metal, the glass removed and repainted, all new rubber seals throughout, new front seats, dashpad, carpet, rear window louvers, etc. The entire drivetrain has been rebuilt, including the front end, steering box and rear end.

The doorpanels and headliner are original and in excellent condition. The original radio is available with the car. This BOSS 302 was built in Dearborn and therefore benefits from the trunk lid holding rod.

The under carriage is original and is utterly amazing. We invite you to review the photos showing no rust, very little oil and no significant dirt build up. The undercarriage has never been detailed.

The owner of the car has never driven it in the rain. Furthermore, in the past ten years he has not washed the car with water, but instead detailed it with a duster and polishing cloth after taking it to car shows and carefully recovered it with a car cover after each use. It is very obvious that this car has been loved and cared for its entire life.

Interesting Fact: The Ford Mustang BOSS is a high-performance variant of the base Mustang. Produced in 1969 for one year, the Boss 302 and the Boss 429 were produced for the Trans Am racing series.    The introduction of the Boss series for Mustang began at the same time as the rivalry with Camaro. Standard mustangs were not capable of beating the powerful Camaro, so a new variant had to be created that could emerge victorious. Therefore, the Boss 302 engine was created to win the rivalry.   As for collectability, a pair of restored 1969 Boss Mustangs sold for $530,000 which goes to show just how sought after this vehicle is. Whether it be the 302 Boss of the 429, this variant of the Ford Mustang is a powerful beast that many collectors try to find!
