Harry's Thoughts
THE ESSENTIALS
This 1968 Ford Ranchero GT has a 302 V-8 and has been a California car since new. It still has it’s original “black plates” and the condition shows it. This is a rot free Ranchero that is an honest, well loved car or truck, well, Ranchero GT! It has been cosmetically restored with a paint and some interior improvements. But it’s originality is apparent throughout.
Having covered a mere 91,000 miles since new this Ranchero GT drives very well and is still extremely tight. This Ranchero was obviously very well loved and cared for. The carpeting, headliner, dash and interior are original and in very nice condition. The carpet has some sun fading but is otherwise in nice shape and very serviceable. This interior reflects a survivor motorcar and could be very nice for car shows.
This car was built on April 23, 1968 in Kansas City for JW Burch & Son Ford in La Habra, California. It was sold on August 21, 1968 and remained in the Southern California its entire life. It was ordered in the top-of-the-line trim of Ranchero GT in the rare and gorgeous Sea Foam Green paint (one of 21 ever made in this color) with the ultra comforatble Black bucket seats. It is one of only 16 ever made with this combination.
The chrome and stainless is in very nice shape. Most of the trim is excellent with only a couple showing some flaws. We’ve tried to capture them on the videos, mainly the rear bumper. The bed is excellent and reflective of a Ranchero that was not used as a truck. It is in excellent condition.
The paint is overall very nice. There are small defects in the paint such as a couple areas with very small surface rust appearing. We were going to have these repaired but ran out of time. The paint is acceptable as is but for serious showing it should have some easy paint repair performed.
The engine runs and drives out very well. This was the first year of the wonderful 302 CID V-8. We apologize that we did not have time to detail the engine, as it would have cleaned up easily. The engine compartment and undercarriage reflect a low mileage Califonria car. The Ranchero was ordered with the Selectaire air conditioning. It is presently missing the compressor. All the parts are readily available to make the a/c work.
These are dependable, practical and sharp looking for daily driving use as they continue to increase in value. This is a Ranchero that would be welcome on any show field as well as Home Depot!
