Harry's Thoughts

This is a very nice example that is sure to help make its new caretaker many happy memories!

THE ESSENTIALS

This is a one owner rust-free and accident-free “Black Plate” California car and a mate with the 1972 Impala we also have offered.  This car was personally special ordered especially by and for George F. Matacek from Costa Mesa, California.  After waiting for their special order to be delivered, George and his wife bought it at George Mejan Chevrolet, Inc. in Los Angeles on April 9, 1968.  This car is complete with the original window sticker, purchase invoice and all books and records.

George is to this day a lover of all things Chevrolet.  He has been buying new Chevy’s since 1956 and ordered a new Chevy every four years like clockwork.  He also bought his first Chevy convertible in 1959 and continued with them until his last Chevy convertible, the 1972 that we are offering in our inventory.

George used this 1968 Impala as his daily driver to and from Compton and later Cerritos for about ten years.  He had accumulated a total of 142k miles in the 42 years he owned the car.  At 86,424 miles the engine was thoroughly rebuilt by the former service manager of dealership from where he ordered the car.

The car has been garaged since new and has never had any body work, accidents or rust of any kind.  The car was repainted in 1985 and a new convertible top installed in 1997.  We have since wet sanded the paint and it is very presentable for use and car shows, although not in any way in concours condition.

The car was special ordered by George in Ermine White paint (Code 900CC) and has a white power operated convertible top, and the original parchment vinyl interior.  The interior is all original and in good condition.  It is a matching numbers car with the 307 cid V-8 with the Turbo Hydromatic 3-speed transmission, power steering and power disc brakes with the great looking rally wheels.  George has been using Mobil 1 synthetic oil in his Impala since 1992!!

Both the 1968 and the 1972 come with complete books and records.  We have had the pleasure to meet and talk with George who is a delightful man and open to discuss these important motorcars.  Both cars are offered with their original and only California license plates.  This is a terrific opportunity to buy the ever popular and appealing Impala convertibles with perfect ownership history and documentation.  It doesn’t get any better than this!!

Interesting Fact: The Chevy Impala is one of the company’s longest lasting vehicles, having been in production since 1957 and continuing to today. This full-size car is known to be Chevrolet’s flagship passenger car and is one of the best-selling automobiles in the entire United States.   Back in 1957, the Chevy Impala was released as a top of the line Chevy Bel Air that had a longer wheelbase and unique tailfins. In this first year, the long-standing popularity of the Impala became clear as 55,989 convertibles and 125,480 coupes were built. This model was instrumental in helping Chevrolet get back to a high-up spot on the automakers list following a recession.   As the Chevy Impala developed over the years, emphasis was placed on comfort for the driver and passenger, rather than focusing on developing a higher-performance engine to be used in the car. The original Chevy Impala is a classic, partially because it looks nothing like its modern rendition!
