Harry's Thoughts

This is a very nice example that is sure to help make its new caretaker many happy memories!

THE ESSENTIALS

This is a spectacular California-since-new British Racing Green MGB.  Being a California car since new this MGB is rust free and has been restored to be a perfect balance of show and tour readiness.  But best of all, it represents the highlight of British motoring in its livery of BRG, tan interior, tan top and wire wheels!  We love it!

We believe it has had two previous registered owners since new and was beautifully restored from bare metal by Al at British Parts Depot in San Diego.  He stripped the car to bare metal and tore the engine down as well.  Over a two year period he repainted it in its present BRG and performed show quality work throughout.

In about 2009 it was sold to our clients who finished the final details of the restoration.  Our client consignors are dyed in the wool car people and finished this MGB beautifully. The previous owner was a US Naval officer who bought the MGB in San Diego in 1995. He enjoyed it for two years until storing it for the next six years while he was stationed overseas.

The engine compression is excellent ranging from 145-150 and the oil pressure is likewise perfect at 60-80 lbs.  And this MGB drives as well as it looks!

The restoration kept an eye for usability as many parts were powder coated for longevity and ease of use, including: the heater housing, air cleaner housings, the brake and clutch masters and covers and the valance for the radiator.  Look at the photos of the engine compartment!

In addition, the seats have been upgraded to the more comfortable Series II seats that are not only more comfortable but also include headrests for safety.  Included with the sale of the MG is a massive file with restoration photos and receipts documenting the monies invested to make this a fabulous motorcar!

All the hydraulics were replaced with new components, the brake calipers are new, the rotors were cross drilled, new knock-offs, dash face, interior trim, top and gaskets!  It is riding on new Dunlap radials for extra safety and performance.  Interestingly, it also has the rare aluminum bonnet (hood).

The odometer presently reads 46,000 miles.  We do not know the accuracy of the total mileage on the MG, but since the restoration is complete it is likely better than when new.

It is ready for touring as you wish and would be easily accepted into most concours event.  This has it all, the perfect colors, chrome bumpers and wire wheels!!  More details soon!

Interesting Fact: The MGB succeeded the MGA, both of which were produced by MG, in 1962. Production continued on this model until 1980, which ended with over 523,000 cars being manufactured. Assembly on the MGB occurred in multiple areas, but originally began in Abingdon, England before eventually moving to Australia. The car itself is a powerful beast, with a 0 to 60 acceleration time of around 11 seconds with a power output of 95 horsepower; both respectable numbers for the time period. Crumple zones were first introduced on the MGB, a game-changer for the automobile industry, when a driver was killed in a collision with a taxi. This event led to the development of safety standards for the auto industry as a whole. There is a four-cylinder and eight-cylinder option for the MGB, but both are known for providing a fantastic driving experience. Car collectors and enthusiasts alike still try to get their hands on this model!
