THE ESSENTIALS

PRICE REDUCED!!  This is an award-winning and almost fully loaded 1966 Corvette Convertible with the L72 427 cid 425 hp.  This is an older body-off full restoration of a California car from new with a very well documented history.  Of course, this is a numbers-matching example that was never in an accident and has just the right provenance to warrant such an exceptional restoration.

This NCRS Top Flight award winner has most all of the desirable options available, including the L72 Big Block, close-ratio four-speed manual, Positraction, side pipes, cast knock-off wheels, hardtop and soft top, leather interior, AM-FM Radio and telescoping steering with the teak steering wheel.  The restoration commenced in 1995 and was completed in 1997.  By 1998, the Corvette had earned its Top Flight Award at the Sun Valley NCRS judging event.  Today, it is still in very high point condition and has travelled 7,000 miles since.

This Corvette is a California car since new and is wearing today its original black California license plates showing its 1967 registration sticker.  In addition, the Corvette comes complete with an enormous history file that documents the history as far back as 1971, when it was owned by Lance Rudiger from Greenwood, CA.  By then, this Corvette had accumulated 30,000 miles.  It was then owned by Merrill Utts, DDS from Roseville and by 1972 it was acquired by Hollis Field, DDS of Fair Oaks, CA.  Dr. Field owned the Corvette until August 7th, 1995, when it was acquired by its present owner.

The livery is gorgeous in its original Milano Maroon (Paint Code 988) with brilliant shine and luster.  There are only a couple of very minor touched up paint chips that are visible only upon close inspection.  The Corvette looks stunning with the correct original cast aluminum knock off wheels and side pipes.  Being fully restored, almost everything is as new.  The black convertible top and matching hardtop are also as new.

The interior of the Corvette is also in excellent condition.  The black leather shows a beautiful patina from 7,000 miles of use since its restoration.  The teak wood steering wheel is also in very nice condition.  The black carpet shows just the hint of wear.  The dash and instruments are in very nice condition and the instruments all work well.  This Corvette is also fitted with its AM-FM radio.  Even the clock works!

The venerable 427 cid Big Block is the upgraded 425 hp with its solid lifters.  It was fully rebuilt and runs and drives incredibly well, even when driven in the 110-degree heat here in Phoenix for the test drives.  The close ratio four-speed transmission shifts beautifully and the positraction works well with the radial tires.  The Corvette is a blast to drive with the side exhaust pipes giving off the throaty roar of the engine while driving.  Every nut and bolt was restored during the restoration and it shows.  The engine compartment is beautifully detailed and looks great.  The chassis was fully restored and shows normal road usage.  The chassis would be easy to clean and detail for show.

This Corvette comes complete with both its hardtop and black convertible top, a color-matching removeable bra for the front end, a wonderful history file with 51 years of history and a fantastic documentation of the restoration with receipts and detailed photos.

The Hagerty No. 2 Value for this Corvette as this is optioned is about $157,000.  The NADA Value is $167,400.  We have this priced to sell well based on its condition and provenance.

The L72 was a 427 cu in (7.0 L) 90° overhead valve V8 big-block engine produced by Chevrolet between 1966 and 1969. Initially rated at 450 horsepower, the rating dropped to 425 hp (317 kW) shortly after its release (although there was no change in power). In 1966 it was the most powerful engine available in the Corvette, and between 1966 and 1969 was the most powerful engine available in full-sized models. In 1969 the L72 was available via a Central Office Production Order (COPO) in Chevrolet's intermediate (Chevelle) and pony car (Camaro). Today these vehicles - referred to as COPOs - are among the most collectible 1960s performance cars.
