THE ESSENTIALS

This is a beautiful low mileage 1961 Bentley S2 Continental DHC that has had three prior owners and had spent 48 years in California. This is a well documented Bentley having three prior owners since new. It is in excellent original condition today as it has been collector owned for the past 50 years. This could be very competitive in Preservation Class events at the leading concours worldwide.

The Bentley is in remarkable condition. Every detail is proper and original. The livery is Shell Grey metallic and is in excellent original condition. It is believed that the livery is all original with the exception of some possible paint touch up to the rocker panels. There is a small area of paint imperfection on the drivers side door. The blue Everflex convertible top (5228DH) remain in beautiful original condition.

The chrome and stainless are in excellent condition. It is believed that all the chrome and stainless are original and not restored.

The original Pale Blue leather (Code VM3244) interior remains soft and supple without any rips or tears. Normal age creases exist providing evidence that this is an original motorcar. It is complemented with Grey cloth headliner (TRA14) and Light grey Wilton wool carpeting. At some point, the carpet had been replaced as it was originally delivered with Pale Blue carpet (TRB9). The dashboard and door caps are in excellent condition and the burl woodgrain is gorgeous. The Bentley has the picnic tray in the center of the dashboard and was specified from new with electric windows.

HISTORY of BC10BY
The chassis was completed by Bentley on September 29, 1960 and sent to Park Ward & Co, Ltd to build the body for the motorcar. The Bentley was completed on March 2, 1961 and delivered to the Rolls-Royce and Bentley motors headquarters to be used as a company car for executives, most likely a Managing Director. It was fitted with the license plates still on the motorcar today, 99 PMA.

On October 18, 1962 (18 months later), the Bentley was sold to its first owner, Mrs. F Cooke. Her residence was at The Whytehouse, Park Lane in Cheshire, England. Mrs. Cooke enjoyed the Bentley for seven years, until it was sold in 1969 to Dr. Saul Freidlander of Sacramento, California in the USA. Dr. Freidlander was a long time RROC member and owned the Bentley for the next 30 years, when it was sold to another collector in California in 1999. The present owner acquired it from the third owner a few years ago. He is a very well known collector of very fine motorcars.

The Bentley now has accumulated 63,200 miles since new and is in remarkable original condition. This is ready for a Preservation Class showing and would be deserving of any major concours field across the globe. It drives as it should and everything works well and as it should.

This is a terrific opportunity to acquire a very low mile, rust free and well documented original Bentley Continental Convertible. The motorcar is available for inspection outside of Chicago, Illinois. For more details, please call or text Harry Clark at +1.602.245.7200 or email us at harry@classicpromenade.com.

Interesting Fact: The Bentley S2 was a luxury vehicle produced by Bentley Motors for three years from 1959 to 1962. This vehicle featured the, new for the time, Rolls-Royce – Bentley L Series V8 engine.   This model was built as a replacement for the Bentley S1, but earlier models still used the S1 dashboard. However, this changed as the S2 developed and came into its own as a luxury vehicle. A high-performance version named the S2 Continental was released but only 388 were ever built.   Total production for the Bentley S2 was 1,863 models over the course of three years, but the body designs varied between four different manufacturers: Park Ward, Hooper, J. J. Mulliner & Co., and James Young. The S2 may have been succeeded by the S3 in 1963, but it still holds up as a classic car that offers a reliable and fun ride for passengers of all ages!
