THE ESSENTIALS
This is a lovely original 1959 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud that is a rust-free California. Featuring power steering, electric windows, and air conditioning, this was a very well optioned Silver Cloud when new. This is a wonderful example that can be enjoyed on tours or shown at local and regional car shows.
This Silver Cloud was ordered by Peter Satori of Coventry Motors and was transported from the factory to the port in Manchester to board the Pacific Unity on July 17th, 1959. Harold H Powell of Beverely Hills, CA was the original owner until later acquired by Richard D Witt. By March 16th, 1982, William J Burton III from Van Nuys, CA enjoyed the Rolls for the next decade. On September 28th, 1992, Walter Rowan of Northridge, CA acquired the Rolls until his estate transferred the ownership to its present owner on November 19, 2020. The Silver Cloud had acquired 115,748 miles from new.
Importantly, upon receiving the Silver Cloud, the present owner had it inspected by the local Rolls-Royce dealership. They found cracks in the block. A fully rebuilt long-block was sourced and installed into the Rolls. That was only a couple hundred miles ago.
The beautiful Ivory livery (Paint Code X25105) is in very nice largely original condition, with repairs made over the years as needed. Much of the paint is original and there are normal scratches and a few small door dongs from nearly 65 years of use. The paint has wonderful shine and luster. The Ivory paint is complemented with black pinstriping. The chrome and stainless-steel trim are also in very nice original condition. The wide white walled tires are in excellent condition. Overall, this Rolls-Royce looks very elegant and proper and is remarkable for its age and original condition.
The interior features Beige Leather (Trim Code VM3234) hides throughout. The leather overall has a consistent patina with the rest of the Rolls. The seating surfaces have been replaced with newer Beige leather hides, but the door panels and arm rests are original and in very nice original condition. The seats are very soft and supple and in good to very good condition. The beautiful burl walnut veneers are in good original condition. The carpet has been replaced with a more modern nylon carpeting that is in good condition and is a complementary beige color. Overall, the interior has a nice patina of an original example and has been well maintained.
The engine compartment as been well detailed. The rebuilt engine with its replacement long-block has excellent power. The power steering makes driving the Rolls easy and enjoyable. The air conditioning compressor has been replaced with a more modern example, which is far more efficient with better performance. The venerable 4.9 liter straight six-cylinder engine operates at good temperatures with appropriate oil pressure, both hot and cold. The temperature and oil pressure gauges are inaccurate, so we used external gauges to ensure proper operations. The chassis reflects its California history and is in very nice original condition.
The trunk is also in very nice original condition. Most all of the small and large tools are there along with the jack and spare tire. Also included in the sale are some historical documents and the Owner’s Manual.
We have this Rolls well priced as the Hagerty Value for Silver Clouds is $70,000 for a No. 2 and $47,800 for a No. 3 example (these include the footnoted 10% increases in value each for the power steering and air conditioning).
