1955 Chevrolet Bel Air Post, Body Off Resto-Custom, 4k Miles, Fabulous!

THE ESSENTIALS

This is a no-expense spared restoration of what was a rust-free California 1955 Chevy Bel Air Post.  In 2004 the owner set out on a complete body-off restoration to very high standards.  The Bel Air has traveled a total of 4,600 miles since the restoration and a mere 30 miles since the installation of a new GM crate motor from GM Performance.  This would cost at least $100,000 to duplicate at a custom restoration shop.  This was built by a retired computer technology executive that is a perfectionist and set out to build his dream Bel Air!!

Norm wanted a stock Bel Air that had only minimal enhancements to make it a great driving motorcar.

Enhancements to the Bel Air includes:

  • New GM Crate 350 cu in engine
  • Turbo 400Transmission
  • 9 inch 31 spline rear
  • Power Steering
  • Power brakes
  • Vintage Air/Heat
  • Cross Flow Radiator
  • Two inch drop spindles with one inch drop springs
  • Slat Flat wheels
  • Front and rear sway bars

The paint and build quality of this Bel Air is what you would see in a high-point concours restoration.  They added sound deadening throughout and the fit and finish throughout is excellent.  The doors close better than new and there isn’t a creak, squeak or rattle throughout the car.  Not a nut or bolt was left unattended, every detail was restored.

This is not your typical run-of-the-mill Bel Air, but a high quality restoration and re-engineering of the original American classic: the 1955 Chevy Bel Air.

Interesting Fact: Even though the Chevy Bel Air was produced from 1950 to 1981, for the first two years of production, the Bel Air was only a two-door hardtop. However, the Bel Air name was expanded to other models until 1975 when production ceased in America. The Chevy Bel Air was still produced in Canada through 1981.   The Chevy Bel Air set a new standard for automobile design by originally having a non-detachable solid roof. This new model saw tentative success with only 76,662 models produced at $1,741 (roughly $17,000 today). A tested Chevy Bel Air had accelerated from 0 to 60 in 19.6 seconds, which was respectable for muscle cars of the day. As production continued over the years, Popular Mechanics reported that the Bel Air’s 0 to 60 time was improved to 12.9 seconds via a newly implemented V8 engine. This model was featured in the 1973 movie American Graffiti as driven by Harrison Ford. This helped the Chevy Bel Air to become the popular classic that thousands across America enjoy driving everyday!
