This stunning British Racing Green over Tan 1954 MG TF is ready and waiting for its next jaunt through town or its next car show. With few miles added since restoration and an aftermarket five speed gearbox, this little roadster is an even better driver’s car than when it was new.

The current collector owner acquired this TF back in January of 2019 from a dealership in Bremerton, WA and has added just seven miles to the odometer in that time.  It is part of a 70-car collection made up of largely British sports cars.  The car was previously owned by an individual in Tustin, CA for twenty-five years, during which the restoration was commissioned.

This MG was refinished in British Racing Green and comes with a tan vinyl removable soft top and matching side curtains in like new condition. From the exceptional brightwork to the chrome wire knock-off wheels, this car looks like it has been well cared for since its restoration in 2014. Overall, this MG would benefit from a full detailing.

Opening the rear-hinged door allows you access to a very well-kept interior. The soft and supple tan leather seats show minimal wear but are without damage and the black carpet appears as new. The dash is in impressive shape, but not without a few minor chips in the paint below the ignition. The octagonal Jaeger instruments are clear and easy to read, but what really pulls the interior together is the NOS steering wheel.

From a driver’s perspective, what makes this TF special is the not-so-subtle enhancement that was added by a previous owner in the form of a Moss Motors five speed gearbox. When adding this gearbox to the 1,250cc XPAG inline-four it gives the car a much better driving experience and makes the roadster much more enjoyable at highway speeds. This $5,000 kit really transforms the car and brings it to a more modern level of drivability.

An independent inspection was conducted, and the report is available for review. You will find that this is a fantastic roadster that shows well given its low mileage since restoration.

The TF Midget, launched on 15 October 1953, was a facelifted TD, fitted with the TD Mark II engine, headlights faired into the fenders, a sloping radiator grille concealing a separate radiator, and a new pressurised cooling system along with a simulated external radiator cap. This XPAG engine's compression ratio had been increased to 8.1:1 and extra-large valves with stronger valve springs and larger carburettors increased output to 57.5 bhp at 5,500 rpm. In mid-1954 the engine capacity was increased by 17 per cent to 1466 cc and designated XPEG. The bore was increased to 72 mm (2.8 in) and compression raised to 8.3:1 giving 63 bhp (47 kW) at 5,000 rpm and a 17 per cent increase in torque. The car was designated TF1500, and externally distinguished by a cream background enamel nameplate on both sides of the bonnet, placed just to the rear of the forward bonnet-release buttons. Production ended at chassis number TF10100 on 4 April 1955 after 9,602 TFs had been manufactured, including two prototypes and 3,400 TF1500s. The TF was superseded by the MGA.

Being a novice at this; I was wondering if there is a strategy to Will’s bid $24,000 after bidding $23,000? I’m not trying to be funny.

We haven’t the foggiest idea. Having said that, I’ve done that myself before when bidding and I’ve had friends that have done it before. I was just with a client that is a well known collector and she told me she and her husband were sitting at an RM auction and he was bidding with his right arm and she was bidding with her left arm and ended up bidding against each other. Finally, the spotter went up to them to let them know! Since this is a no reserve auction perhaps the WIll eber just wants to make sure they’re the winner!! Cheers and let me know if we can help!!
