Harry's Thoughts

This is a very nice example that is sure to help make its new caretaker many happy memories!

THE ESSENTIALS

This is a nice and solid standard steel bodied 1950 Bentley Mark VI that has had a complete cosmetic restoration to car show standards.  The car features newer paint, correct leather, headliner and carpeting.  The chrome is very nice and the car performs very well- in fact, the steering and brakes are much better than most Mark VI’s.

This is not a concours competing Mk VI, but it is very sharp and has received immediate attention everywhere we’ve driven it.  Further, we have completed two 100-120 mile trips in the car through winding mountain roads and it performs well and is very pleasant to drive (and for the passenger as well).  We particularly enjoy the enormous sunroof which makes driving in pleasant weather a fabulous experience.  Why don’t all classic-era cars have sunroofs?

The oil pressure is a little lower than ideal, so it is assumed to have 157k miles since new.  The oil pressure is fine for normal collector car use but we wouldn’t recommend using this for cross-country touring without attention (100-200 miles trips are fine).  It has been serviced by a noted Rolls-Royce and Bentley technician and is fairly well sorted.

The Bentley Mark VI marked a radical change for Rolls-Royce. It was the first car to be offered by the company with factory built coachwork. The Standard Steel Saloon body was produced at Pressed Steel’s factory. Powered by a six cylinder in-line F-head engine (inlet over exhaust) with a capacity of originally 4,257 cc the car performed really impressive.

Mark VI Bentley’s have a 120 inch wheelbase which was short enough to provide spirited performance but long enough for a comfortable, almost modern ride.  The four speed manual transmissions are tight and inspire confidence.

This is an ideal entry into the world of vintage Bentley’s.  For further information please call Harry at 602.245.7200 or email us at harry@classicpromenade.com.

Interesting Fact: The Bentley Mark VI was in production from 1946 to 1952 and, in typical Bentley fashion, only 5,208 were produced over those years. This full-size luxury car features an FR layout and was the model chosen to succeed the famous Mark V. Bentley themselves refused to release the horsepower of the Mark VI, but the 4.5-liter straight-six engine is sure to provide a strong amount of power to the vehicle. Originally when this car was introduced, there was a shortage of steel across Europe which created a shortage for this vehicle. Despite this fact, the Mark VI was a popular choice and were heavily sought after. Given that just over 5,000 were produced, this is a rare car by Bentley that car enthusiasts and collectors alike try to track down and purchase!
