Harry's Thoughts
THE ESSENTIALS
This is a handsome example of the iconic 1949 MG TC roadster. Of the 10,000 built, this TC is one of only 494 desirable EXU-series models built expressly for US export, and also one of the last 150 cars constructed before the company switched to production of the TD model. It has been part of a significant Southern California collection for the past twelve years.
Its black livery is in nice overall driver-quality condition, having been repainted a few years ago. During the repaint the rubber seals and buffers were replaced as well. The tan Haartz cloth canvas top and tonneau cover were also replaced in the past couple years. The chrome and stainless are original and are in driver quality condition. One of the headlights would benefit from being re-chromed as the chrome is peeling. The wire wheels are correctly painted silver and in nice condition. We love the fold-down windshields featured on TCs. This TC does not have its side curtains.
The tan leather interior is either original or was redone decades ago. It is soft and supple but a couple seams have come undone and would need to be repaired. One feature of the EXU TCs is that the turn signals were prominently located.
This MG TC has a matching numbers engine and the engine compartment is largely correct and in good order. We would recommend a basic detailing and touching up the engine paint to make it presentable for shows. Nerfine bars were added decades ago as these were popular accessories in the 1950’s. This MG TC comes complete (the lid to the battery box is behind the seats along with additional spare parts).
