Harry's Thoughts

This is a very nice example that is sure to help make its new caretaker many happy memories!

THE ESSENTIALS

This is the one to buy!  Red with tan leather/suede interior, air conditioning, power everything, 5-speed transmission and even the rare factory hardtop.  This is an excellent example with about three prior owners since new and always treated as a third car only, amassing 42,000 miles over 22 years.  It is rare to find Alfa’s of any year with low mileage because they are reliable, economical and fun to drive.

The late series Spiders are the very best.  They have all the refinements that over 30 years of producing the same car can yield.  The final series have nice Italian attention to detail such as wood accents on the interior, power steering, power windows, air conditioning, power anti-lock brakes, etc.   It has the very best Pininfarina design that was refined in the end to look fantastic.  They moved the spider from a raw sports car to one that can be driven by mature adults as everyday cars or a weekend toy!

The tan leather interior has suede accents that look terrific.  Overall the interior is in excellent condition.  The carpeting is black and the floor mats are black with red piping.  The convertible top is black and in excellent condition.  Since the top should typically be down, we must mention that the top boot is tan.  The dash and door panels are a very tasteful mixture of tan and black.

We have complete and detailed service records which will be included in the sale of the Alfa.  A summary of the most recent service includes:  A major injector service was performed at 37,800 miles, including a valve adjustment, engine mounts, a major tune-up, brake master cylinder rebuild and the air conditioning was converted to 134 (which is a great improvement!).  At 38,500 miles (five years later), the catalytic converter was replaced and the brakes flushed.  Then, most recently last fall, the following were replaced: the clutch, the clutch master, the transmission mount, the pinion seal, the differential pan gasket and the valve cover gasket.  This Alfa has been regularly serviced and always loved.

The car is ready to enjoy.  We’ve already signed it up for the Concorso Italiano (www.concorso.com) in Monterey, Ca as part of the Pebble Beach weekend!!

This Spider was sold new in the Orlando, FL area and remained there for twenty years until 2004.  Then for the next five years it was in Texas.  Finally, the last owner kept the car in Lexington, South Carolina.  It is quite apparent that the Spider was climate controlled garage kept (we know for sure in SC it was) by the excellent condition of the original paint, plastic trim, interior, etc.

The car has never been in an accident and is free from rust.  Please review our 108 photos of the car.

Please look at the values for this model provided by Hagerty, ranging from $28,400 to $16,100 for an average car:

Interesting Fact: The original Alfa Romeo Spider is a two-seater sports car that was comprised of two series: the 105 and 115. This vehicle was the successor to the Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider and was produced from 1966 to 1994.   At the 36th Geneva Motor Show, the Spider was released with an inline four-cylinder engine that produced 108 horsepower. Five-speed and three-speed transmissions were attached over the years which gave the vehicle a high variability depending on the model chosen. In 1993, production on the original Spider ended and a new variant was released a year later.   This newer model had a much shorter production period that only spanned about 10 years. During that time, only 39,000 Spiders were built, but this car was still a popular one among the car collectors’ community and is an esteemed choice for any sports car lover!
