THE ESSENTIALS

SOLD to Florida!! This is a beautiful fully restored 1966 Chevy Corvair Corsa coupe with the venerable 180 hp turbocharged engine and four-speed manual transmission. It is visually stunning in its original Marina Blue Poly. This Corvair is ready for concours level competition or to be used for touring. You’d search long and hard to find an example this nice, and in the right color combination. Of interest, the name Corvair is a word that was created in 1954 for a Motorama prototype and is the combination of names Corvette and Bel Air.

This Corsa was restored from 2005 through 2010 in North Carolina. The car comes complete with documentation, including restoration receipts, the owners manual and warranty information.

Cosmetically, the Corvair is in beautiful condition that is ready for show. The Marina Blue Poly paint is vibrant and striking. The chrome and badging along with the stock sport wheels compliment the paint. The paint and chrome are as new and in excellent condition.

The interior is also blue and looks great with the flat black and chrome used through the dashboard and door panels. The interior is also in as-new condition with only a couple large scratches on the vinyl when the rear seat is folded flat to hold luggage or other large parcels not otherwise in the trunk. The seats are otherwise excellent. The instruments all work well. Even at 6’3″ the interior is roomy and comfortable.

Driving the Corsa is where the real pleasure starts. It feels as new. It is tight and free of rattles. It has great acceleration and shifts well through the gears. The syncromeshed four-speed manual transmission is nice and tight and handles the 180 hp well. The engine has a couple normal leaks, but nothing out of the ordinary for a Corvair. The mechanical restoration was performed by Papa J’s Toy Shop and the paint and body were done by Purdue Body Shop in Greensboro, NC.

The Corvair flew through our inspection and a report is available on request. This was one of seven cars sent to us from a friend and consignment client in Oregon.

Interesting Fact: The Chevy Corvair is the only American-designed passenger car to be mass-produced with a rear-mounted, air-cooled engine. This vehicles name originated from a blend of the words Corvette and Bel Air, with the “Air” referencing the cooling system for the engine.   This model was produced from 1960 to 1969 and saw two generations. The Corvair uses a 2.3-litre flat-six engine that gives the car 80 horsepower. A turbocharged model from 1965 and 1966 is the most powerful variant with a 180 horsepower Corsa engine. Chevy brought about huge breakthroughs in the mass production process for this vehicle and produced close to two million in 10 years.    Throughout its production years, the Chevy Corvair offered options ranging from a two-door coupe to an eight-door van. The first generation features a Z-body and suspension system that uses four coil springs at each wheel to produce a comfortable ride. Aesthetic changes and chassis refinements are the highlights of the second generation. After being overshadowed by the release of the Ford Mustang, coupled with high production costs, the Chevy Corvair ended production. While not a high-speed vehicle, the Corvair was manufactured to be a reliable vehicle and many car lovers still seek this model out today!
