THE ESSENTIALS

SOLD to Georgia!! We are pleased to represent for sale this 1947 Lincoln Continental Cabriolet Convertible. The frame-up restoration is of high quality and is absolutely beautiful. This Continental drives as well as it looks and would be welcome at most regional car shows as well as tours. The Lincoln comes complete with a three inch thick binder of photos and documentation related to its history and restoration.

This Continental was a California car since new. According to factory documents, it was assembled on March 17, 1947 as a special order by Tupman Motors in Long Beach, CA, with a shipping date of March 20, 1947. There is reason to believe that this Lincoln was ordered for MGM Studios. It was then bought circa January of 1949 by Mr. Armand Garino, who was an MGM studio employee. Mr. Garino kept the car until after 1963 when, according to our records, he suspended the registration. At that time Mr. Garino lived in Tahoe Valley, CA. We next have annual California DMV registrations from 1972 until 1985, while it was owned by Mr. Albert Joseph Divittorio of Placerville, CA. On June 24th, 1989, the Lincoln was bought by WIlliam Bowman of Placerville, CA.

Mr. Bowman set out on a complete and thorough rotisserie restoration that was documented in its entirely in photos. But before the restoration, he researched the car and the details for five years. The actual restoration was from 1991 through about 1995. The work quality speaks for itself and is absolutely beautiful. Using CCCA or concours judging, this would average about 94 to 96 points and could easily perform better with minor detailing.

The exterior body and paint are very nice in every respect. There are a few areas where the paint has been touched up. The Lincoln Maroon livery is beautiful and is polished for show. The chrome on this Lincoln is gorgeous! The 1947 Lincoln Continental is definitely one of the best designs of the early post-War period. The lines of the car are perfect from front to back. The canvas convertible top is finished in tan Haartz cloth. The canvas has many small imperfections from where the top folds down, which is normal from use. The power top works well and overall is very well done. The top boot also fits well.

The interior is replete with a saddle tan leather that is as soft and supple as if it were installed yesterday. There is almost no evidence of wear or use anywhere in the interior. All the instruments are as-new and work well. We love the art deco inspired dashboard.

The Lincoln powertrain is the 12-cylinder engine with power delivered by three-speed manual transmission with overdrive. And it looks and sounds great, too. This example drives as-new in every respect. It is without rattles and vibrations, accelerates well, brakes well and performs as it should. The engine compartment is very well detailed, albeit with some liberties taken to make it look sharp and perform well. It has extra long trumpet horns installed that sound like a locomotive. The chassis is beautifully detailed and is ready for show.
