Harry's Thoughts

This beautiful original 900SS Final Edition will complete your Ducati collection!

THE ESSENTIALS

This is a beautiful low mileage original example of the iconic 1998 Ducati 900SS FE. With only 5,159 miles accumulated from the first owner, this is in exceptionally fine preserved condition. The Ducati Super Sport came to a halt and called its final production FE, for Final Edition. This Final Edition is number 228 of 300 that were made for the North American Market.

The Final Edition version came with major updates including special bodywork, tank design and upgraded suspension. The additional features of the 900SS Final Edition include a unique numbered engraved tag, a carbon fiber mudguard, the single seat configuration and was only available in Grigio (Silver).

David Thorpe from Cave Creek, AZ acquired this Ducati new and accumulated just over 5,000 miles.  The current owner acquired it from Mr. Thorpe in April of 2016.  Immediately upon his acquisition of the Ducati, he carefully decommissioned it in order to preserve the like new condition and added it to his extensive motorcycle collection.

The only color available for the Final Edition series is Grigio (Silver) over the bronze trellis frame.  This Ducati is in nearly showroom condition.  The Ducati is free from any accidents or mishaps. The black vinyl solo seat is also in excellent condition. All plastics and hardware are in excellent condition and the only known modification to the Ducati are the MFW mirrors. The original mirrors are included with the purchase. This Ducati features include a monoposto tail section, a front fairing with integrated turn signals, a clear windscreen, and a carbon-fiber chain guard and fenders.

The Final Edition is powered by the venerable air-cooled 904cc L-twin that had garnered great success for the Super Sports bikes throughout the 1990’s with 84 hp and peak torque at just 6,400 rpm. With this drive-train, the Ducati 900SS FE is capable of reaching a maximum top speed of 136.7 MPH. This example is equipped with an Ohlins rear shock, Brembo dual front disc brakes, Brembo Rear disc brake, Veglia-Borletti gauges, including an 11k-rpm tachometer and a 160 MPH speedometer.

This Ducati has been carefully stored in climate-controlled showroom. The Ducati comes with a clear title.

1975 saw the introduction of the Ducati 900SS, a bike that had been developed with the sole intention of taking the fight to the ever increasing engine sizes fitted to the superbikes pouring out of Japan. Both the 750SS and 900SS shared almost all the same parts in order to lower production costs, the swept capacity of the 900 was actually 863.9cc and the engine kept the same twin Dellorto PHM 40mm carburetors. As the ’70s progressed the 900SS was slowly improved, the right side shifter switched to the left to meet US regulations, the kickstarter was improved, crank strength was upgraded, electrics were significantly de-bugged, and engine timing was improved. In 1979 the 900SS received a distinctive black paint job with gold accents as an appeal to the British market, the spoked wheels also disappeared in favor of cast Campagnolo wheels. Over the next few years the 900SS was transitioned into the Mike Hailwood Replica, and was eventually replaced by the S2.
