Harry's Thoughts

This is a very nice example that is sure to help make its new caretaker many happy memories!

THE ESSENTIALS

This is a beautiful low mileage Rolls-Royce that has been serviced faithfully since new by two RR engineers here in Arizona.  1997 is the very last of this series (Series IV) and is the ultimate of refinement.  All of the 1997 Silver Spurs have the Garrett turbochargers installed from the factory.  These add significant power but are absolutely without the noise or lag found in Bentley Turbos of this era.

This final series is quite rare.  According to Hagerty, only 122 Series IV models left the line from 1995-98!

The original owner bought the car at Desert European Rolls-Royce in Palm Springs. The motorcar looks very elegant and proper in Mason’s Black with tan coachstripes.  The chrome Rolls-Royce wheels really make the abundance of stainless sparkle and makes the black livery even more deep and rich.  The exterior also benefits from the european style headlights, an expensive option for the time.

We love the looks of the 1997 Spurs because they were devoid of the everflex vinyl roofs which had become outdated.  These long wheelbase models look similar to a limousine but are a perfect size for daily use around town or to take to dinner.

This motorcar wears all of its original paint and has never been touched up or resprayed.  It has never been in an accident or in need of repairs.  The paint is excellent with only a couple very small areas where it has been rubbed through on edges (see photos).  The interior wood could benefit from refinishing of the door cap rails and picnic trays.  The leather has never been re-dyed or touched up and is in very nice condition.  There are almost no lines in the leather and absolutely no cracking, etc.  All carpeted areas benefit from mouton (sheepskin) overlays (floormats), including the trunk (boot)!!  A fabulous and quite elegant detail.

Options include the woodgrained door panels, chrome wheels, mouton overlays, the AM/FM, cassette and a CD changer in the center console.

By about 2004 this Rolls had accumulated a mere 1,300 miles and it was sold to its new owner, Tom Pomeroy, in Paradise Valley, AZ.   Mr. Pomeroy bought it for his wife to use.  He is a well known insurance brokerage owner, artist, gun collector.  It was then used with regularity by Mrs. Pomeroy.

Over the next ten years it was serviced by Dave’s Imports in Phoenix, AZ (factory trained RR engineer and proprietor of an English-only repair and restoration facility).  In about 2012 the Rolls was sold to Dave Wells (of Dave’s Imports) and he used it about one or two days a week to travel to his shop or to a country club.  The service history for the Rolls since new is included in the sale as well as the details of the ownership.  This documentation is very important to us!!

It’s interesting that these Spur’s have been known to have rust issues when they are from harsh climates such as New England, etc.  My first new Rolls/Bentley was bought in 1997 from Desert European so it’s hard to imagine that they are old enough to have rust issues!!  This is absolutely rust-free!!

It has all the normal servicing completed, including the suspension and steering upgrades, tune, etc.  The air conditioning is excellent even in 110F temperatures.!  This Spur comes complete with a $250 custom fitted car cover and carrying bag.

In mid-July we just completed a full oil and transmission service and complete inspection.  We also installed new Michelin blackwalled radials so that this is a no-excuse ready to enjoy Rolls.

We have this priced very fairly and for a quick sale. When new this Rolls sold for about $190,000 (plus tax).   The collector car price guide (2012) shows the value at $99,000 for a number one example, and $44,550 for a average number three motorcar.  NADA has the value at $42,250 to $55,200.   Look at their site at: http://www.nadaguides.com/Cars/1997/Rolls-Royce/Silver-Spur/4-Door-Sedan/Values

This is a wonderful opportunity to own an incredibly rare motorcar.  With a little attention this can be one of the nicest Silver Spurs in the US.  And for a Silver Spur, the rare 1997 models are the only one to consider.  Please look at the photos in detail.  Also, feel free to visit our website for classicpromenade.  For more details please call Harry at 602.245.7200 or email us at harry@classicpromenade.com.

Interesting Fact: The Rolls-Royce Silver Spur is a long-wheelbase version of the Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit that was manufactured from 1980 to 2000. It was also the first model to feature a retractable Spirit of Ecstasy, which would retract into the radiator shell if dislodged.    Both the Silver Spur and Silver Spirit carried over designs from their predecessor the Silver Shadow. This included using a 6.75 L L410 V8 engine along with a GM-sourced THM400 3-speed transmission. Each vehicle was considered a full-size luxury car and self-leveling suspension systems with ride height control and shock absorbers ensure a comfortable ride quality.   There were two variations of the Silver Spur released in the 1990s: The Flying Spur and the Silver Dawn. The Flying Spur is a turbocharged model that features a higher performance than the base model. Only 134 of these were ever produced. The Silver Dawn is a specialized edition of the Spur and featured new technology for the time such as electronic traction assistance systems and heated rear seats.    Production on both base models officially closed in 1997 but continued until 2000 when the Silver Spirits parts were fully out of stock. The luxurious craftsmanship that went into the production of the Silver Spur and Silver Spirit paved the way for future Rolls-Royce vehicles.
