Harry's Thoughts

Growing up with Minis and Morris Minors, this little Figaro is an absolute blast to drive and enjoy. Most all of the modern luxuries are in this cute little package. This is guaranteed to make you smile!

THE ESSENTIALS

This is a vastly different car for us.  This is all about fun and having the cutest car in town!  This is a very nice 42,000-mile 1991 Nissan Figaro that has most of the fun options to make it practical and cute.  The Figaro’s have quite a following and can be enjoyed with the top lowered and air conditioning blazing!

The Figaro’s were a Japanese RHD market offering that have made their way into the US.  This Figaro was imported by Figaro specialist Duncan Imports in North Carolina and has been enjoyed by its US owners in Arizona.  The present Tucson, Arizona owner is a good client of ours and has enjoyed it for the past three years.

The Figaro’s were offered in a four seasons theme with each season having its own color.  This Figaro is offered in its original Spring Green with the white painted top and white convertible roll back soft top.    The 12-inch wheels are accented with a complimentary white wheel cover and Figaro hub caps.  The dual side mirrors are also trimmed in white.  Overall, this is about as cute as a car can get!  The front features a very human looking headlight and grill design which instantly creates smiles on any onlookers.  This example is in beautiful original condition.  There is a small ding in the passenger side B-pillar which is barely noticeable.

The interior is in very nice condition in its original crème leather with green piping.  The leather is soft and supple with only slight wear on the driver’s seat.  The Spring Green carpeting is in excellent condition being protected by the gray Figaro branded carpeted floor mats.  The dash is in excellent condition in crème and the instrumentation works well with the crème-colored faces.  The soft top retracts in seconds and is easily handled by one person.  The soft top is in excellent condition and this Figaro includes a spare top in the sale.  The Clarion stereo has been upgraded to UK and USA radio tuning and also features a CD player and Bluetooth compatibility.

The Figaro features a turbocharged 987cc MA10ET inline-four that is factory rated at 75 horsepower and 78 lb-ft of torque.  The transverse engine drives the front wheels through a three-speed automatic transaxle that shifts very smoothly.  The engine compartment is very well detailed and shows the care that this Figaro has enjoyed through its life.  The power front disc brakes provide excellent stopping power.

Being collector owned, this Figaro comes with most of the available options including the adorable parcel shelf, cup holders, sway bar and an uninstalled luggage rack (the owner didn’t want to scratch the paint).  This Figaro is priced well as the Hagerty No. 2 Value is $37,000.

The Nissan Figaro is a front-engine, front-wheel drive, two-door, 2+2, fixed-profile convertible manufactured by Nissan for model year 1991, and marketed in Japan at Nissan Cherry Stores. A total of 20,073 Figaros were produced by Nissan in the convertible's single year of series production—all with right hand drive. There are a few examples of left-hand drive conversions for those countries that have right hand traffic. As a fixed-profile convertible, the upper side elements of the Figaro's bodywork remain fixed, while its fabric soft top retracts in conjunction with a solid panel with a defroster-equipped glass rear window—as seen in other fixed-profile convertibles, including the original 1957 Fiat 500 and the Citroën 2CV. With its design variously attributed to Naoki Sakai and/or Shoji Takahashi, the design recalls that of the Gutbrod Superior, a German fixed-profile convertible marketed from 1950-1954. Because of its origins at Pike Factory, Nissan's special project group, the Figaro (along with the Nissan Pao, Be-1 and S-Cargo) are known as Nissan's "Pike cars," and represented a design strategy that adapted "design and marketing strategies from other industries like personal electronics.
