Harry's Thoughts

This is a gorgeous Corniche that has been well maintained with very low mileage. I love the color combination! A great affordable drophead Rolls!

THE ESSENTIALS

This is beautiful 1976 Rolls-Royce Corniche DHC with long-term Arizona ownership and the past owner of 25 years.  With only 32,600 miles accumulated since new and $28,000 in recent restoration receipts, this would be a terrific example to drive and enjoy.  We love the two-tone blue color combination.  We have this priced to be an affordable Corniche.

This Corniche was ordered new from Max of Switzerland, the Rolls-Royce and Bentley dealer in Scottsdale as a special order for Michael and Gertrude Dale.  She was ordered on December 12, 1975.   The original MSRP was $67,705.  The Dale’s were based out of Valley Cottage, NY but they enjoyed a home in Scottsdale.  This Corniche remained in Scottsdale and after 12 year she had accumulated a mere 3,816 miles. The Dale’s continued to enjoy the Corniche until 25 years ago when she was acquired in Scottsdale by Ronald and Jacqueline Greenwood from Waterbury, CT.  The Greenwoods were RROC members and invested significantly in her maintenance and restoration.

The livery is very nice in its two-toned Silver Mink (Paint Code 9500691) over Seychelles Blue (Paint Code 9510071) that is in good condition today with beautiful shine and luster.  Twin Silver Mink coachstripes compliment the paint and its original Blue convertible top is in good original condition.  The chrome and stainless trim are all in very nice condition as well, as further proof that this Rolls has been garaged and cared for its entire life. A repaint was performed by the Greenwoods and it is of driver quality overall with gorgeous shine and luster but having small imperfections in certain areas.

The interior is also largely original and in good condition.  The Dark Blue leather (VM 5470) is complimented by Larkspur Blue piping (VM 3471).  The front seats have been completely rebuilt and the leather replaced, which is in excellent condition.  The rear seats are original and have normal creases from age and use.  The lighter wood is very nice condition with only a few smaller cracks and some lifting of the clear coat.  Overall, the wood is very nice and most likely original.  The Dark Blue (Trim Code 5470) Wilton wool carpeting is in very nice condition with its gorgeous lighter blue sheepskin mouton overlays.

The engine compartment is beautifully detailed and looks nearly as new.  The venerable 6.75-liter V8 runs well, and all the major systems function well.  With 32,000 miles, this Corniche has been pampered and is in very nice condition.

This Corniche comes with its original owner’s handbooks and related booklets, as well as its spare, tools and such.  Also included in the sale are the invoices for more recent restoration and service invoices with RROC acclaimed engineers at JE Robison Service totaling $28,000. This Corniche has benefitted from detailed hydraulic servicing, co0ling system, air conditioning and brakes.

The NADA Value is $71,100.

Interesting Fact: The Rolls-Royce Corniche was produced as a hardtop from 1971 to 1980 and as a convertible until 1995. This mode is a two-door, front-engine, luxury vehicle that was a development of the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow. Additionally, Bentley created a version of the Corniche that is the Bentley Continental.   This vehicle originally got its name from the 1939 Corniche prototype and the name itself came from the French word “corniche” which means “coastal road”. The standard Rolls-Royce V8 engine is used along with a three-speed automatic transmission. In 1977, however, the Corniche received a Bosch KE-Jetronic fuel injection that boosted the top speed of the vehicle to 118 miles per hour.   Production of the Rolls-Royce Corniche numbers over 4,000 and the various models were popular with a number of celebrities at the time. The Rolls-Royce Corniche is loved by many and regarded as a comfortable drive by car lovers everywhere!
