Harry's Thoughts

This is a gorgeous E-Type that is a true 40,000-mile west coast example that can be enjoyed immediately. Although not original, the updated chrome Jaguar wheels give it a very sleek and sexy look!

THE ESSENTIALS

PRICE REDUCED $6,000!  This is a stunning 1973 Jaguar XKE Coupe that has been in California and Arizona with a mere 40,600 miles travelled since new.  Benefitting from updated cosmetics, this is a beautiful example in the striking Opalescent Maroon complimented with more modern Jaguar wheels.  The automatic transmission and air conditioning make it a pleasure to drive.

This Jaguar was built in June of 1973 and was first registered in California in July of 1973.  By January of 2013, the present owner, Phil Pheiler, acquired her from her previous Palm Springs, CA owner having accumulated 39,681 miles.  Mr. Pheiler serviced the Jaguar and used it sparingly over the past decade.  It now has accumulated 40,600 miles from new.

The beautiful Opalescent Maroon is in very nice condition and has incredible shine and luster.  In the sunshine, the opalescence lights up the paint whereas in the shade or evening it appears a dark and rich maroon.  There is a very small blemish in the paint about 1.5 inches in diameter that is shown in the photo gallery on the passenger side rear fender.  Otherwise, the paint is beautiful for touring, regional shows or weekend use.  The chrome and stainless is in excellent condition as one would expect from a 40,000-mile example.  The traditional E-Type wheels have been upgraded with a more modern Jaguar chrome wheel, likely from the early 1990’s.  The look is simply stunning as it truly subtly updates the look of the car.

The interior features Maroon Leather that we believe was replaced with a non-perforated leather.  The leather is very soft and supple and compliments the exterior color perfectly.  The dash and steering wheel are in excellent condition with no cracking or issues.  The center console armrest does have some cracking.  The instrumentation and air conditioning all work well.  This Jaguar features the automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes and air conditioning.

The engine compartment holds the venerable 5.3-liter V12 aluminum engine with four Zenith-Stromberg carburetors.  The engine compartment is clean and in nice condition.  The chassis and undercarriage are free of rust and damage.  The spare wheel is the original Jaguar rim and the spare tire is non-matching.  This Jaguar comes complete with a service manual, owner’s manual and some servicing receipts.

The Hagerty No. 2 value is $85,900 and the No. 3 value is $56,900.  The NADA value is $73,350.  We have this priced fairly.

Interesting Fact: This Jaguar model was only called the XKE in the North American market during the time of production. In Britain, where the car was manufactured, it was known as the Jaguar E-Type.

Production on the Jaguar XKE occurred between 1961 and 1975 and a convertible, as well as hard top version were both offered. This sporty car boasts a top speed of 150 miles per hour and a 0 to 60 time that is under seven seconds. The body of the Jaguar XKE is based upon the Jaguar D-Type racing car which won the 24 Hours of Le Mans for three consecutive years starting in 1955.

When the Jaguar XKE was released in 1961, Enzo Ferrari called it “the most beautiful car ever made” and, in 2008, The Daily Telegraph listed the Jaguar XKE in its list of the 100 most beautiful cars of all time. Regardless of age, the Jaguar XKE holds up as one of the most stunning and high-performing vehicles in history!
