Harry's Thoughts
THE ESSENTIALS
This is an eye catching 1970 Camaro RS Z28 that was built new in California and has never left. Sporting the original California “Blue Plates”, this is an authentic sympathetically restored Z28 with the highly desirable RS trim.
This was built new in California and painted in Cranberry Red with black rally stripes, black interior and black rally wheels. The paint is an older very high quality respray in the original color and was beautifully color sanded. Over the years there have been several small chips from driving that are detailed in the 97 photos in the gallery for this Z28. For concours they would need touching up or a repaint but for regular use it looks great as it is!
The black interior is in excellent condition and is a mix of new and original. The interior overall looks fantastic. The rally wheels have been repainted as well as the undercarriage and engine compartment. This car would be very comfortable in local and regional car shows and is ready for the road!!
The chrome and trim are excellent. We love the split front bumper that makes this car very rare. It was only available on the Z28’s with the RS trim option. It gives the car a lighter, sportier look that was no doubt what the original designers intended.
The engine has been completely machined and rebuilt. It is a matching numbers engine for the car. It is the 350 cu in engine with what is likely about 400 HP. There are less than 500 miles on the rebuild of the engine. Completing the drive is the original 12 bolt rear end with posi-traction and a Munice four-speed manual transmission. We love the original rear sway bar that was an option.
The Z28 was the only Camaro that had no option available for air conditioning. The 6,000 RPM redline was just too much for the compressors of that era.
Look closely at the photos. You’ll see the undercarriage looks great and the car is nearly rust free. The passenger door has a small amount of bubbling that I have photographed for viewing in the gallery.
The odometer shows about 18,000 miles and we assume the total mileage to be 118,000. Everything has been rebuilt and restored so the car feels like new! The Z28 comes with complete file history for the past 16 years as well as the original brake rotors and smog pump.
The Hagerty Value Guide shows the value at up to $62k!! Look at their findings: http://www.hagerty.com/valuationtools/HVT/VehicleSearch/Report?vc=157676
