THE ESSENTIALS
This must be one of the very nicest 1969 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow Mulliner Park Ward DHCs available with a mere 34,000 miles from new. Featured in its original colors of Silver Mink with Dark Blue Leather and its new Dark Blue convertible top, this is as gorgeous as the rare Silver Shadow Convertibles get. This Rolls has received excellent service and would be equally at home on the show field or tours. (Please note that the photos are before we detailed the car!)
Ordered for Mrs. Rosalie H Levine through Peter Zage & Co, Ltd and was delivered to her incredible estate on Smith Road in Greenwich, CT on May 15, 1969. It is said that Mr. Joseph E Levine ordered it for Rosalie while he was in Europe for one of his nearly 500 movies. Mr. Levine ordered this shortly after his huge successes with The Graduate and The Producers. We can assure you that this DHC has as much sex appeal as the Academy Award winning Sophia Loren, one of Mr. Levine’s big stars. In 2015, this DHC was acquired with 32,200 miles by its present owner who is organizing a move from WA to Ireland, thus necessitating the sale of most of his beloved collection.
The livery is stunning in Silver Mink (Paint Code M151/2429) and is in overall concours condition. The paint is vibrant with great depth and shine and there are only minor touched up areas in the high use areas. This is one of our favorite color combinations on a Corniche series, looking even more impressive with the chrome bumpers. According to documents, this is one of only 18 DHCs produced in Silver Mink. The chrome and stainless-steel trim are all in excellent condition being beautifully polished. The Dark Blue pinstripe is a perfect complement to the Silver Mink. The DHC wears white walls (now radials), just as Mr. Levine ordered it. The Dark Blue Everflex convertible top is new and is perfect. The gray headliner is also excellent. The convertible top boot is also as new in its matching Dark Blue leather with gray piping throughout. Overall, the exterior is in concours condition.
The interior has been all restored with Dark Blue leather (Trim Code VM3209) with gray piping and beautifully restored burl wood that is also in excellent condition. The matching Dark Blue Wilton wool carpet is also as new and is covered in both front and rear passenger areas with Dark Blue mouton sheepskin overlays. All of the gauges and clock work well and the original Motorola AM-FM radio is installed. The power front seats adjust correctly, and the power convertible top operates effortlessly. Seatbelts are installed for all four passengers.
The Silver Shadow brought forth massive technical innovations, including four-wheel independent suspension and four-wheel disc brakes. To achieve the desired ride quality, Rolls-Royce licensed a high-pressure hydraulic self-leveling system developed by Citroen. The 6.25-litre aluminum-alloy V8 engine used in the Silver Cloud II and III carried over, but they were now paired with a much more refined three-speed torque converter automatic transmission specifically for export models. The engine compartment on this DHC is well detailed. The present owner has maintained this Rolls very well and is thoroughly documented with service and maintenance records.
The DHC comes complete with its Owner’s Handbook, factory records, service records, the jack and tool tray (although it is missing many of the small tools which are readily available). Also included is an extra fully polished, painted and pinstriped wheel cover (just in case), a full set of four Workshop Manuals and other period literature.
