Harry's Thoughts

I love the Jaguar E-Type, especially these closed headlight early examples. With a numbers matching and more powerful 4.2 liter engine, this would be terrific for touring and showing!

THE ESSENTIALS

Inspection reports available. See full photos, videos and more.

This is a stunning freshly restored 1965 Jaguar XKE E-Type Series I Open-Two-Seater (OTS) roadster that is a numbers matching example, as verified by the Jaguar Heritage Trust COA. This E-Type is also within the first few hundred 4.2 E-Types built (Serial Number 10199).

This Jaguar was about 75% of the way through its restoration when the owner, John Burnham, was no longer able top complete it due to health issues. The E-Type was acquired by Cooper Classics (NYC, New York), in early 2019 who then commissioned Briarcliff Classics to complete the restoration which concluded earlier this year. According to Cooper Classics, this Jaguar was originally delivered to an owner in Wisconsin, eventually making its way to Illinois and then New York.  It is believed that this is the first time that this car has been offered for sale publicly.

The restoration started with a nice  and solid, rust-free original example.  With matching numbers and one of the first 200 built, this originally Opalescent Golden Sand on Light Tan E-Type was ripe for restoration. Briarcliff Classics has done a wonderful job of injecting new life into what is now a fully sorted roadster ready to be driven an enjoyed. Be sure to note the manuals, receipts, and documentation photos at the end of the photo gallery. The restoration was completed in June 2019, where it has remained in sellers care ever since.

This E-Type has been beautifully finished in Signal Red complimented by a black Stayfast convertible top and boot cover, complete with chrome wire wheels, giving it a classic and spectacular look.  The paint, chrome and finish work are all in excellent condition.  This is ready to be shown at concours events.

The gorgeous black leather interior and matching black carpeting is in excellent condition, along with all other components in the interior.  The dash, instruments and door panels are also either new or restored.  Everything works as it should. This car also comes complete with a full tool kit.

The heart of this particular E-Type is what lies beneath the bonnet.  The engine starts instantly and runs just the way Jaguar intended. It shifts through all gears with ease with a solid and tight suspension. Power is vast and smooth throughout the power band, with an impressive exhaust note coming from the correct porcelain headers, running its way through a stainless steel exhaust system. The carburetors are properly tuned and balanced, and the choke functions as it should.

This E-Type has gone through and passed Cooper Classic’s exhaustive certification program. If you are interested in acquiring an E-Type that is essentially as-new or better than new, this may be your motorcar.

The bolts that show in the front fender wells should have the head toward the tire; not the nut..

Interesting Fact: This Jaguar model was only called the XKE in the North American market during the time of production. In Britain, where the car was manufactured, it was known as the Jaguar E-Type.

Production on the Jaguar XKE occurred between 1961 and 1975 and a convertible, as well as hard top version were both offered. This sporty car boasts a top speed of 150 miles per hour and a 0 to 60 time that is under seven seconds. The body of the Jaguar XKE is based upon the Jaguar D-Type racing car which won the 24 Hours of Le Mans for three consecutive years starting in 1955.

When the Jaguar XKE was released in 1961, Enzo Ferrari called it “the most beautiful car ever made” and, in 2008, The Daily Telegraph listed the Jaguar XKE in its list of the 100 most beautiful cars of all time. Regardless of age, the Jaguar XKE holds up as one of the most stunning and high-performing vehicles in history!
