Harry's Thoughts
THE ESSENTIALS
This is a wonderful Porsche 356C that has been in one family for the past 43 years. It comes complete with a full file history and has been in California dating back to 1978.
This Porsche was bought new on September 5, 1964 from USAF Captain Lawrence D. Smith. He purchased it new from Manhattan Auto in Bethesda MD and almost immediately moved to Colorado. Captain Smith enjoyed the car and kept meticulous records from day one. Every fuel stop, light bulb, oil change, etc was recorded in his log book that comes with this fine motorcar. Please refer to the detailed photos.
On April 19, 1979 the Porsche was sold to Gary Wilson of Nederlands, CO who immediately moved to California. Gary and his family are the present owners of this motorcar and all the receipts are included with this purchase documenting the original mileage of about 96,800 miles.
Originally the Porsche was painted red from the factory and at one point the Captain repainted it to the factory offered color of 6411 Togo Brown, which is a gorgeous shade of chocolate brown. The paint has a nice patina and there is some vertical rusting only on the two front fenders. The rest of the car is remarkably without rust. The floor pan is quite solid and well preserved as you would expect for a motorcar being in California for decades.
The interior is quite nice in black vinyl that has been well protected for years with sheepskin covers. Coco mats preserve the flooring. Refer to the photos for more details.
The car drives well and is well functioning. The transmission is a bit tricky and may need work.
It is rare to find such a nice solid Porcshe with such fantastic history. This would make for a wonderful restoration or enjoyed for decades as-is. This comes with all the tools and documentation shown. This is for a serious enthusiast and is reasonably priced on behalf of the family.
