Harry's Thoughts

This 1963-1/2 Ford Galaxie 500 is unrestored apart from one-repaint and a freshly rebuilt motor. The beautiful color combination and originality make this Galaxie a rare example and would be an excellent addition to any American car collection. It’s perfect for tours and shows.

THE ESSENTIALS

This 1963-1/2 Ford Galaxie 500 is a matching numbers, mostly unrestored example with one-repaint and a rebuilt motor 1,000 miles ago. The Corinthian White livery is beautiful over the red interior. This near original Galaxie needs nothing to be enjoyed.

This Galaxie was acquired by Charles R. Hasley on August 17, 1963 through Bill Doenges Ford in Tulsa, OK. Lonnie McClure acquired the Galaxie on May 10, 1965 from Denton Easterling Motor Company in Sapula, OK. Mr. McClure purchased the Galaxie for the amount of $3,450 and enjoyed it approximately 29 years. Chief Eaton took ownership of the Galaxie in approximately 1994. Chief Eaton had the Galaxie repainted in the original color, Corinthian White, and had the motor rebuilt approximately 1,000 miles ago. The current owner, David Kammerer, of the Phoenix area, acquired the Galaxie a few months ago.

The livery is a gorgeous repaint in the original 1963 Ford Galaxie color, Corinthian White. The repaint appears to be somewhat recent due to the luster and shine. The finish has very few imperfections which are only detectable upon close inspection. The chrome and bright work are in nice condition with some scuffs, slight roughness, and minimal issues in the high use areas. The wheel covers are in nice overall condition and are nicely complemented by the white wall tires. The trunk is very clean and detailed and appears to have been rarely utilized. The undercarriage is clean and rust free and shows well throughout. Overall, the exterior of this Galaxie is in very nice condition and would be perfect for shows.

The interior is original in red vinyl and is in nice condition but does show some areas of wear and a couple of seams that need restitching from normal use over 60 years. The dash presents well overall and the instruments and gauges function properly apart from the clock. The red carpet is in nice condition with some slight fading in high use areas. The headliner is in overall nice condition with one seam that needs restitching. This Galaxie is well appointed with air conditioning, power steering and an original dealer front floor mat. The overall condition of the original interior is a testament to how well maintained and cared for this Galaxie has been throughout it’s life.

The engine compartment is very clean and well detailed. The 289 ci V-8 starts and runs very well due to the professional rebuild just 1,000 ago. The automatic transmission performs well and operates smoothly and quietly. The undercarriage is clean and rust-free. This Galaxie is ready to be driven and shown in local shows.

Accompanying the Galaxie is the Owner’s Manual, the original sales invoice, several repair invoices, and numerous original registration receipts. This Galaxie is a joy to drive and would be a very nice addition to a Ford or any classic car collection.

The Ford Galaxie is a full-sized car that was built in the United States by Ford for model years 1959 through to 1974. The name was used for the top models in Ford's full-size range from 1958 until 1961, in a marketing attempt to appeal to the excitement surrounding the Space Race. In 1958, a concept car was introduced called "la Galaxie" which incorporated the headlights into pods inline with the grille and a reduced front profile. For 1962, all full-size Fords wore the Galaxie badge, with "500" and "500/XL" denoting the higher series. The Galaxie 500/LTD was introduced for 1965 followed by the Galaxie 500 7-Litre for 1966. The Galaxie 500 prefix was dropped from the LTD in 1966, and from the XL in 1967; however the basic series structuring levels were maintained. The "regular" Galaxie 500 continued below the LTD as Ford's mid-level full-size model from 1965 until its demise at the end of the 1974 model year.
