Harry's Thoughts

This is a very nice example that is sure to help make its new caretaker many happy memories!

THE ESSENTIALS

This is a fabulous two prior owner California car that is a true survivor.  It is still in its original livery with only a couple of very minor scratches.  This is a truly fantastic original Thunderbird.

This Thunderbird was bought new on June 15, 1962 to Elizabeth Harrington who lived in Monterrey, Ca.   She bought it at Cirimele Ford Sales in Oakland, Ca.  She had it for a number of years and then sold it to its second owner in Southern California.  This T-Bird was cherished all its life and was kept almost as new.

On December 2, 1988 she found her way to the present owner, Don Kratzer of Fallbrook, Ca.  Mr. Kratzer has kept the T-Bird in continued excellent condition.  Everything works well, including the power windows and air conditioning.

We love the light tan colors inside and out.  The paint color is Code T (Sandshell Beige) and the interior is presented in Code 54 (Lt. Pearl Beige Vinyl).  The interior material has a very slight pearl sheen to it, still original and in very nice condition.  Only the drivers seat shows a modest amount of wear.  The carpet is also original and in nice condition.

Perhaps most amazing is the engine compartment.  Look closely at the photos.  This is original, not repainted or detailed.  All the chrome is also original and excellent.

Everything works as it should and as one would expect for a well loved Thunderbird.  The air conditioning blows nice and cold, the transmission is nice and tight, the power windows work perfectly, the sliding steering wheel column slides out well and is excellent.

It is very rare to find such a pristine example and even rarer for it to be a rust free CA Black Plate T-Bird.  For more information please email us at harry@classicpromenade.com or call us at 602.245.7200.

Interesting Fact: The Ford Thunderbird is an upscale vehicle that featured eleven unique generations. This vehicle sparked the expansion of the market segment for personal luxury vehicles that feature a higher emphasis on driving comfort, rather than high-speed performance. Production on the Ford Thunderbird occurred from 1955 to 1997 and then again from 2002 to 2005. By the end of 2005, Ford had managed to produce over 4.4 million Thunderbirds. The car was originally designed as a sporty two-seat convertible but was not marketed as such. Within a few years, a second row was added, and the Ford Thunderbird is known for getting larger and large in size until the late 1970s. Many V8 engines have been used in the Ford Thunderbird over the years. As the size of the model increased, a larger engine was also required to support the vehicle. This resulted in later models having poor fuel efficiency. While they weren’t advertised for speed, Ford used the Thunderbird body in their NASCAR races, with many hitting an average speed of about 200 miles per hour. The final Thunderbird was manufactured in July of 2005, but the vehicle still holds up as one of the most comfortable and high-performing cars to date!
