THE ESSENTIALS
This is a beautifully restored 1961 Daimler Dart (SP250) has been owned by one family for 58 years and has been very well cared for. It comes with its original sales invoice and a trunk full of other documentation and manuals. The provenance of this Daimler is excellent.
The little-known Daimler has a 2.5 liter V8 with hemi alloy heads. With 140 hp and weighing in at a mere 2,000 pounds, it was one of the fastest cars in its day. Top speed was about 125 mph. Thank goodness for its four wheel disc brakes! Fewer than 2,700 examples were built over five years of production. This Daimler is a blast to drive with very strong power, great handling and a wonderful exhaust note from its dual exhaust.
We love the beautiful Old English White paint that is complemented well with its white steel wheels and Daimler hub caps. The burgundy leather livery is stunning when contrasted with the tan carpeting. All the paint was redone in the original factory color and the body prep was done very well. The chrome and stainless are in generally good original condition, the side view mirror is original and is the Lucas bullet style mirror. This Daimler is complete with its original factory soft top in tan vinyl as well as the white hardtop. The soft top would need to be replaced but is a wonderful relic of originality. The hardtop has been painted but would need its liner installed.
Inside the passengers compartment the luxury continues with the all burgundy leather interior that is soft and supple. The seats form well to your body. The rear seat exists, but is largely appropriate for placing groceries, luggage or perhaps golf clubs. The steering wheel is original and feels very nice in your hands. The steering is adjustable, an option from when it was new. The tan heavy vinyl convertible top is the original from new and needs to be replaced. It also has a tan tonneau cover for use when the top is not being used.
This example has benefited from a thorough professional restoration that is documented with invoices totaling about $45,000. The restoration was done by professional British car restorers in Canada. The restoration includes most items including removing all the paint, body prep and repaint, new interior, full tune up, new rubber trim, brakes, resealing the gas tank, etc. The restoration came in two waves, the lions share was from 2015 to present. A recent compression check shows strong compression in each cylinder.
