THE ESSENTIALS
This is a gorgeous example of the rare and desirable 1960 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II HJ Mulliner Drophead Coupe. This is one of only 74 original drophead coupes made over the three-year production run of Silver Cloud II’s. This is a 37,590-mile example that has been restored over the past three years. It is also unique in its present configuration with the Carriage House adaptation of the traditional Lucas R-100 headlights and a unique continental kit. This is truly a unique opportunity to enjoy a beautiful Drophead.
This was ordered by the New York-based Inskip on September 30, 1959, and assigned chassis no. LSRA19 and engine no. 172AS to be a US delivery HJ Mulliner Drophead Coupe. Special Heavy-Duty frames were used for the convertibles as specified on the build sheet. The Rolls-Royce was delivered to HJ Mulliner to commence the adaptation to the coveted drophead coupe. The completed car was shipped from London to New York on February 20, 1960, aboard the “Benny Skou”. Mr. Oliver D Appleton of Mt. Kisco, NY received the Rolls on May 4, 1960.
By July 13, 1976, the Rolls was acquired by Carriage House in Manhattan, NY. Carriage House was a renowned Rolls-Royce dealer that made custom bespoke modifications to cars on behalf of its clients. Many celebrities had such modifications made and these examples are rare and desired. Carriage House installed the classic Lucas R-100 headlights, and a custom rear mounted spare tire.
Classic Promenade acquired LSRA19 on September 1, 2021, and commenced a restoration. It was obvious that the Rolls had 37,000 original miles, but it had been repainted with two tone exterior and interior and required refreshening. We commenced a bare metal repaint in its original Masons Black (Paint Code 501) and added the original Deep Red pinstriping. The black paint is gorgeous with mirror like shine and finish. The black Everflex power convertible top is in very nice condition and is stored under a Black top boot cover. There were no needed rust repairs as the body and undercarriage were rust free. As per its original specification, new wide white wall tires were sourced. There is a flag mast under the flying lady mascot that can accommodate a flag.
The interior is presented in Special Red Leather, as per its original specification, which was installed in 2024. The leather is gorgeous and is complimented by its beautifully refinished burl walnut and new matching Red Wilton wool carpeting. This Rolls has its original dealer installed air conditioning and its original AM/FM stereo. The interior is beautiful and stunning next to the Masons Black livery.
The engine and engine compartment are beautifully detailed. The venerable 6.2-liter V8 has wonderful power and is very quiet and smooth. The four speed automatic transmission shifts well through the gears and delivers the power effortlessly. All servicing and rebuilding of components has been performed as needed.
The Drophead comes complete with its large and small tools, original owner’s handbook and original factory records and documentation. All instruments work as they should, including the clock and stereo. This Silver Cloud was ordered with power steering and electric windows. The three-year restoration is in its final punch list finishing details.
