THE ESSENTIALS
This 1960 Bentley S2 Continental Flying Spur by H.J. Mulliner is a highly original, concours-recognized example that has been preserved with care and authenticity throughout its life. The 1960 Bentley S2 Continental represented a pivotal moment in the marque’s evolution, introducing the new 6,230-cc all-aluminum V-8 engine while preserving the company’s tradition of refined sporting character. Among the most compelling of these models was H.J. Mulliner’s Style 7508 “Flying Spur,” a four-door saloon whose close-coupled lines and sculpted rear fenders prefigured the modern four-door coupé. One of only 49 left-hand-drive examples produced between 1960 and 1962, chassis BC66LAR remains a highly original Bentley that has earned concours recognition while being maintained in superb condition.
This Bentley was first delivered on 26 May 1960 to Dr. George Westgate, finished in Medium Grey with Blue Grey leather interior, a color scheme that it continues to wear today. Dr. Westgate was the first owner of a matching Mulliner Convertible, reflecting the elegance of his collection. By the late 1980s, the Bentley had earned a 1987 RROC National Award, with the corresponding plaque still mounted on the dashboard, before entering the inventory of respected UK sales and restoration specialist, P.J. Fischer, who performed a careful cosmetic and mechanical review. Subsequently exported to Sweden and updated with a kilometer-based odometer, the Bentley was preserved by a conscientious owner until its recent return. The odometer currently shows 98,346 kilometers (61,109 miles), showing minimal use since the 93,360 kilometers recorded in Mr. Fischer’s 1989 inspection report.
The exterior retains its original Medium Grey finish, presenting today with depth and luster befitting a concours-level motorcar. Mulliner’s aluminum coachwork is well-preserved and remains in excellent condition. The Medium Grey paint is in excellent condition with the red pinstripe complimenting the color combination. The chrome accents are in excellent condition. The Bentley has never suffered accident damage in its 65 year history. This Bentley is in excellent condition and would be welcome at many concours events.
The interior of this Bentley presents beautifully with original interior. The original Blue Grey Connoly leather interior is in great condition showing gorgeous patina with some heavier wear in high use areas. The Wilton wool grey carpeting is in great condition overall. The wood veneers have been restored to exhibit original quality and are in excellent condition. The instruments are all in working order and this Bentley has had factory-correct air conditioning installed. The interior of this Bentley has been wonderfully maintained and is ready to be enjoyed!
Mechanically, chassis BC66LAR benefits from the powerful and refined 6.2-liter V-8 paired with a four speed Hydramatic automatic transmission and power steering. The Bentley has been recently serviced and starts easily warm or cold with a drive feeling tight with no unwanted noises. This Continental has never required a full restoration, instead benefiting from sensitive updates and expert care.
This Bentley comes with Mulliner’s special tool box, correct handbooks, and complete factory documentation further reinforcing its authenticity. Recent concours recognition includes First Place in the Postwar Rolls-Royce & Bentley class at the Boca Raton Concours d’Elegance.
