Harry's Thoughts
THE ESSENTIALS
This is a gorgeous restoration of an original, rust-free California car. Our consignment client, Jerry, is no stranger to Ford’s. He has restored numerous Ford motorcars and each is a work of art cosmetically and mechanically excellent.
The car is beautifully restored and ready for touring or show. The engine was rebuilt by Escondido Machine in about 2007 and has accumulated about 1,500 miles since. The engine rebuild cost about $4,100.
It runs perfectly and is cool even in extreme temperatures, which is rare for flathead V-8’s! Jerry also converted the six volt electrical system to a 12-volt system for increased reliability and installed an auxillary electric fuel pump. Everything works, including the radio and heater.
The paint was resprayed in the correct and gorgeous Ford Washington Blue. It is a high quality single stage paint job performed by Rancho Auto Body in 2010. The interior was done in high quality vinyl using the original patterns in a very attractive tan. Unique Upholstery in Lake Elsinore performed the upholstery work and installed a new correct canvas convertible top and pump motor. All interior and top work was completed in 2010 and looks as new. We love the dark blue livery contrasted with the tan top and interior.
Finally, Jerry correctly re-chromed or polished almost everything and it looks stunning!!
Jerry bought this ’51 in 2006 from a CHP officer in Northridge, CA. The car was a rust-free California car that was originally red and had one repaint dating from the ’70’s. The car has never been in an accident or had any rust.
This is a concours quality restoration that is ready for touring or show. This does not have the overdrive unit but comes with a spare uninstalled overdrive transmission. The odometer reads 37,100 and is not documented.
The Collector Car Price Guide has No. 1 value at $43,000
