Harry's Thoughts
THE ESSENTIALS
This is a nice older restoration of a completely rust-free example of the 1941 Ford Station Wagon, Wood Deluxe that has been in San Diego for many years. Whether you are into showing or just driving classics, this is one to consider.
We are selling this on behalf of an estate for the long-time former owner. The car, with little effort, would make a very nice tour car that would be welcome in most all shows and concours events.
Cosmetically, this Ford Woodie looks very sharp! The maroon paint is nice for touring and local shows, as are the interior and much of the wood. The chrome is good to very good. The glass is very nice.
The interior is very nice. The tan upholstery is in excellent condition overall, although the incorrect carpet should be replaced.
The engine sounds excellent and is very strong with good performance, running cool and strong oil pressure. We noticed that the crankshaft has a little movement in it upon acceleration. The transmission is excellent.
The electronics work well, except the fuel gauge. The windshield wipers are not functioning.
It has all new brakes, including the master, wheel cylinders, etc. A full tune up including ignition wires, plugs, points, etc. was performed and a full service, as well. She runs beautifully!
The chassis is completely free of rust and has not been restored or detailed. There are no patches or issues with this woodie. It shows that this is a rock solid, honest woodie. The two front doors both have wood rot making opening and closing the doors difficult, and will need immediate attention.
The front shock mounts are broken, which is a common issue with the Deluxe models. The exhaust system is in good shape. The tires are wide white wall radials and are fine. The radiator would benefit from a full cleaning. There is an auxiliary overflow reservoir for the coolant that is mounted too low to be as effective as it could be. It should be relocated or removed.
The Ford Station Wagon is located in San Marcos, CA, is available for inspection and will require about 21 days to gain final approval from the court/heirs for the sale to finalized.
