1938 Cadillac Series 75 V8 Convertible Sedan

Restored as Needed, Gorgeous Original Interior!

Harry's Thoughts

This is a gorgeous and commanding 1938 Cadillac Series 75 Convertible Sedan that can be shown and most concours events or enjoyed on tours.

THE ESSENTIALS

This is a beautiful 1938 Cadillac Series 75 V8 Convertible Sedan with Division that has an incredible provenance and has been restored only as-needed.  The restoration services were performed only as needed and the result is a beautiful example that can be shown at most all concours events or enjoyed for touring.

During his past ownership, this Cadillac has undergone a refreshening to exacting standards, including a bare metal respray of the original Black paint and a correct replacement of the tan canvas convertible top.

The exterior of this Cadillac was refinished in its original Black livery and still appears showroom new. The chrome and brightwork are in excellent condition with only a few minor imperfections. The tan Haartz cloth convertible top was replaced along with the inner lining and a replating of the convertible top frame.   It is still in concours condition today. The lack of dual side mounts give a longer appearance and looks great, giving the Cadillac a more commanding presence. The chrome wheel covers are in fine shape and are wrapped with Firestone wide white wall bias ply tires.  With the convertible top down, the Cadillac looks more like a sporty phaeton than a convertible sedan.

The beautiful Grey leather interior is largely original including the carpeting. The door panels look terrific, save for some wear marks near the footwell and from the utilization of the window cranks. The front seats are comfortable and show little signs of wear given the age of the Cadillac. The rear seat shows well when considering the age and still has a soft and supple cushion.  The original interior are examples that this Cadillac has been incredibly well loved and cared for since new.

The wood trim looks very nice and really reveals the quality and beauty that Cadillac is known for. The dash and instrumentation are clear and clean. The division operates with a near effortless twist of the handle. Adorning the area around the division window handle are a cigar lighter and a rare Fleetwood clock. The interior accent lighting is functional and bright.

Mechanically, this Cadillac is ready for the show field and for long distance touring. The 346 cubic inch V8 offered 135 horsepower when new and provides ample power. The floor mounted three speed manual transmission moves through the gears well and offers a confidence inspiring driving experience. The engine compartment is finely detailed, and the undercarriage is clean and original.

Interesting Fact: The Cadillac Series 75 is a full-size V8-powered series that was produced intermittently from the 1930s to the 1980s. This vehicle was the successor to the company’s former mainstream car and the Series 75 proved to be Cadillac’s top of the line model for most of the post-war era.   During its first generation, the Series 75 was distinctive due to its v-shaped windshield style and headlights that are mounted on the radiator shell. A 5.7-liter Monobloc V8 powers the car and gives it 135 horsepower. The Series 75 was expected to be a hit at launch, but the high starting price of $2,445 (about $45,000 today) limited sales as it was released in the post-Great Depression era.   As time went on, the Series 75 grew in popularity as the Great Depression fell further into history. Horsepower was eventually raised to 150 and, after the war, the Series 75 became Cadillac’s top-of-the line model. This vehicle is still regarded as an instant classic and recognized by car lovers everywhere!
