THE ESSENTIALS
This is a beautiful older restoration of a 1930 Cadillac Series 353 V8 Sedan that shows and drives incredibly well. This Cadillac retains its original Mohair upholstery and has otherwise benefitted from an older restoration, as needed. She is perfect for participation with several national clubs, such as the CCCA, AACA and the CLC as well as local shows and tours.
According to its longtime present owner, this Cadillacs early history was in Newport, RI and may have belonged to the Vanderbilt family or close neighbors to the Vanderbilts. It was acquired by a Mr. McLatey from an estate sale from a ten-car garage from one of the Newport mansions. Mr. McLatey was from Hartford, CT and had commenced much of this Cadillacs restoration. It was acquired by its present owner Mr. George Boxley in 1997 after having met Mr. McLatey at the Hershey AACA event. Mr. Boxley is a significant Cadillac collector and had the engine thoroughly rebuilt shortly after his acquisition. Mr. Boxley toured her throughout New England and the Eastern Seaboard. He participated in several AACA, CCCA and CLC events, touring all throughout the Eastern United States.
This Cadillacs livery is in an elegant two-tone Burgundy and Black. The paint shows well overall, with great shine and luster. Being an older restoration, there are many small chips which have been touched up. Overall, she looks very nice. Her chrome and stainless-steel trim show well and have been well cared for. The dual side-mount spare tires with wide white walls overall lend an elegant look and feel to her. She is well accessorized with Trippe Safety Lights, a luggage rack and dual side mounts. Her headlights are gorgeous. Her windshield is original and shows discoloration and age cracks along the lower portion. A replacement windshield and gasket are included with the sale. Overall, the exterior is in very nice condition.
Her interior features the original brown mohair upholstery. The brown mohair upholstery is in nice condition overall given its age and use, with expected wear as we show clearly in the photo gallery. We would recommend keeping the original upholstery and not replacing it as it clearly shows the care this Cadillac has received over its lifetime. The brown carpet was replaced during the restoration and shows well overall. Included in the vanities is a handheld beveled mirror and notebook on one side and a cigar lighter on the other side. There is also a complimentary brown lap robe for the rear passengers. There are five delicate brown silk shades to ensure the privacy of the rear passengers. The gauges function properly and are in nice condition. The interior shows well overall for being an incredible survivor.
Cadillacs 353 CID V8 develops 95 hp and performs smoothly and powerfully, as you would expect for a well-maintained example. The 3-speed manual transmission shifts smoothly and operates quietly. The engine compartment is well detailed and looks great. All the accessories work well. This Series 353 runs and drives beautifully. Her oil pressure is good, and she runs at a very cool operating temperature. Her exterior storage compartments contain the battery cutoff switch and the wheel wrench. The chassis had been completely restored and now shows normal soiling from tours. The chassis could easily be cleaned and detailed.
We have priced this very realistically. This 1930 Cadillac Series 353 Sedan is priced to sell.
