THE ESSENTIALS

The 1927 Buick Master Six Model 47 represents one of the marque’s most successful and respected prewar sedans, offering ample power, a luxurious interior, and Fisher body craftsmanship. Riding on a 120-inch wheelbase and powered by a 274-cubic-inch inline six producing 74 horsepower, this example combines originality with excellent presentation. With only 72,640 miles from new, concours recognition, and comprehensive documentation, Buick VIN 29699 is equally suited for regional shows, historic tours, or weekend outings.

Buick produced 49,105 examples of the Model 47 for the 1927 model year, with coachwork by Fisher in Detroit and final assembly in Flint, Michigan. This example remained in the original Coyne family from its delivery new in New Jersey until 2015, passing from Mr. and Mrs. Coyne to their son Francis, then to his son James, a noted Utah restorer who operated A&J Body & Paint until his passing in 2016. The Buick entered its current ownership in 2015, chosen for its close resemblance to the 1928 Buick the owner’s family enjoyed in New Zealand during the early 1950s. Used sparingly for dinners and local events over the past decade, the Buick has been carefully maintained, with thorough service records and original documentation accompanying the sale.

The exterior presents in excellent condition, finished in Washington Blue with black fenders and roof and highlighted by yellow pinstriping. The Buick was repainted in the mid-1990s and retains an attractive luster. Its 21-inch oak artillery wheels, painted in matching Washington Blue highlights, are fitted with newer Firestone tires and a rear-mounted spare. Original Buick-branded step plates, cowl lamps, and the factory luggage rack contribute to its authentic character. Overall, the bodywork and trim convey the presence of a well-preserved, highly usable prewar sedan.

Inside, the Buick’s cabin is notable for its size and comfort, featuring black mohair upholstery and headlining that were professionally restored in the 1990s and remain in excellent order today. The front and rear bench seats show minimal wear, while the spacious rear compartment is equipped with door pockets, robe bar, footrest, and window shades for passenger comfort. Nickel-plated door handles and window cranks, a wood four-spoke steering wheel, and the original steel dash with Buick’s distinctive control panel all remain in excellent overall condition. This interior captures both the durability and the understated elegance for which Buick was known in the 1920s.

Power comes from the original 274-cubic-inch inline six paired to a three-speed manual transmission, with semi-elliptical leaf springs at all four corners and mechanical drum brakes. Modifications for usability include a Chevrolet distributor conversion, an upgraded electric fuel system installed in 2016, and an 8-volt battery with trickle charger. The drivetrain runs well at moderate speeds, and maintenance has been kept current by marque specialists. The Buick was inspected and serviced in October 2025.

This Buick has been shown at a number of concours events over its 98 year history, and won several category awards. Importantly, this Buick has been recognized with 390 of 400 points by the Buick Club of America, earning Senior status and confirming its authenticity and quality. Equal parts showpiece and touring companion, this example is a true testament to Buick craftsmanship at the height of the Jazz Age.
