THE ESSENTIALS

The 1928 Ford Model A Roadster represents an authentically presented late-1920s roadster that emphasizes period correctness and enjoyable usability. Powered by a 40-horsepower four-cylinder engine and equipped with a three-speed manual transmission, the Model A shows 3,739 miles on the odometer and presents in well-maintained driver condition following restoration work completed in 2018 through 2022. The Model A is ideally suited for local shows, club events, and relaxed touring where authenticity and approachability are equally valued.

The Model A was produced in November 1928 in Michigan. The Ford was long associated with Arthur Kahn of California, a dedicated member of the Model A Ford Club of America who exhibited the Model A for decades and presented the Ford at the Greystone Mansion Concours d’Elegance in 2014. The current owner acquired the Model A in 2018 and invested substantially in refurbishment using period-correct components while regularly participating in local and regional driving events.

The exterior of the Ford was refinished in 2021 in two-tone dark green and gray green with period-correct pinstriping and presents in good condition. There are some chips in the paint and minor light scratching from normal use. Sweeping black fenders with step plates, black steel spoke wheels with 21in wire wheels with Bias-ply tires, and a rear-mounted spare maintain the correct visual character. The black “Cobra long grain” vinyl convertible top remains in great condition and only showing wear from the internal fabric on the bow on the interior. The foldable rumble seat with brown vinyl bench is in excellent condition. The windshield, custom-etched windwing panels, driver’s side mirror, radiator mascot, nickel-plated headlamps, and rear luggage rack present in great condition and remain functional.

The cabin features a brown vinyl bench seat in overall great condition with one tear that is patched  and black rubber floor matting in great condition. The gray green painted metal dashboard houses fully functioning gauges set within a brushed metal panel, complemented by a correct four-spoke steering wheel and clock in in the rearview mirror. The interior maintains the simple, durable presentation that defines the Model A driving experience and reinforces the vehicle’s emphasis on authenticity and practicality.

Power is supplied by a four-cylinder engine, number A937556, producing 40 horsepower and paired with a three-speed manual transmission, 6-volt electrical system, and four-wheel drum brakes. Under current ownership, the Model A received extensive refurbishment exceeding $33,000, including work to the engine, clutch, radiator, muffler, fan shroud, brakes, starter, lighting, and battery, with consistent effort to utilize correct Model A components. The Model A offers reliable operation for touring and events and is accompanied by a car cover and clean Arizona title, reflecting a well-sorted example of an early Ford produced by the Ford Motor Company.

Interesting Fact: The Ford Model A was Ford Motor Company’s second market success after the all-time famous Model T. Production on the Model A began in 1927 and was produced until 1931, with nearly five million models being manufactured during that time.   This vehicle launched with a price range of $385 to $1,400 ($5,589 - $20,325.63 today) depending on the exact Model A that was purchased. A water-cooled L-head inline four engine was used that gave the car 40 horsepower with a top speed of about 65 miles per hour.    Overall, the Model A had a variety of styles such as a standard coupe and convertible option. This was also the first Ford model to use a standard set of driver controls along with the clutch and brake pedals. Interestingly enough, a rear view was an optional choice in this vehicle, and it was also the first to use safety glass in the windshield. Although production ended nearly a century ago, the Model A is an iconic vehicle that many still try to purchase today!
