1960 Volkswagon Beetle

Rust-Free, Iconic Simplicity, Fun

From the Driver’s Seat - Our team’s personal take on what makes this classic stand out

The 1960 Volkswagen Beetle delivers charm without pretense. This is a fun classic meant to be used, enjoyed, and shared.

THE ESSENTIALS

The 1960 Volkswagen Beetle represents the purest expression of postwar automotive simplicity, pairing iconic design with mechanical honesty and everyday usability. Powered by an air-cooled 1200cc flat-four engine and equipped with a four-speed manual transmission, the Beetle delivers a driving experience defined by light controls and unmistakable character. This example presents in very good to excellent condition following a restoration completed in Utah in 2019 and is ideally suited for club outings, local shows, and enjoyable daily drives.

Chassis number 2989192 reflects Volkswagen’s global design philosophy during a pivotal era when the Beetle had firmly established itself as a cultural and automotive phenomenon. The five-digit odometer shows 65,586 miles. The Volkswagen’s straightforward engineering, combined with its approachable size and proven reliability, makes ownership predictable and rewarding, with minimal compromise for modern use.

The exterior is finished in glossy black paint that presents with strong luster and consistent depth, showing only a few small rock chips in expected high-traffic areas. Chrome accents, including the front and rear bumpers and trim, remain in very good condition and complement the Wolfsburg crest hood emblem. Body panels are straight and well aligned, and the Beetle rides on four newer 165 R15 wide whitewall tires mounted with polished Volkswagen hubcaps, enhancing both visual appeal and period correctness.

Inside, the cabin reflects Volkswagen’s thoughtful approach to efficient design. Sierra Gold vinyl front bucket seats and a rear bench seat accommodate four passengers comfortably and remain in excellent condition, accented by Adobe Beige piping and matching door panels. Black and tan rolled-pile carpeting with rubber edging presents very well, reinforcing durability and ease of use. The left-hand-drive layout features the original-style steering wheel adorned with the Wolfsburg castle and wolf crest, anchoring the interior firmly in its German heritage. The simplified and vented dash features only an 80mph speedometer and glove box.

Powering the Beetle is a rear-mounted, air-cooled 1200cc flat-four engine producing approximately 36 to 40 horsepower, paired with a smooth-shifting four-speed manual transmission. The drivetrain delivers dependable performance, excellent rear-wheel traction, and a distinctive air-cooled mechanical soundtrack that defines the Beetle driving experience. Four-wheel drum brakes and dual exhaust pipes complete a mechanical package that prioritizes simplicity, serviceability, and longevity.
