Harry's Thoughts
THE ESSENTIALS
This Chevrolet Nova Super Sport is a first generation of the Chevy II lineup and was the top model available in 1963. This Nova SS features a 283 ci V-8 engine upgrade with a sport and appearance package that includes special emblems, instrument package, wheel covers, side moldings, bucket seats and a floor shifter. The upgraded engine, stunning exterior color combination and the beautiful interior are just some of the reasons this Nova is a popular collector model as Novas are recently appreciating in value.
This 1963 Chevrolet Nova SS Convertible was part of Charles Boucher collection in Plymouth, MA. This Nova was restored by Mr. Boucher which included a re-paint, interior upholstery, and a white vinyl top. This Nova was appraised by Aero Auto Appraisals in 1994 and the mileage of 78,045 was authenticated at that time. The Nova was acquired on April 16, 1997 by Jack Jedick, who has always garaged the Nova and kept it very well maintained during his ownership. This Nova SS is a real head-turner which shows and drives very well. It would be a terrific addition to any American automotive collection and is ready for tours and shows.
The livery of this 1963 Nova SS is a beautiful bright red with a white convertible top and proudly displays the correct SS emblems. The exterior is an older re-paint that still has nice luster and shine overall. There are a few paint imperfections that are noticeable upon close inspection, but the overall appearance and color combination shows well. The white vinyl convertible top operates beautifully and is in very nice condition overall. The matching white vinyl boot fits well and snaps in place easily. The chrome bumpers are in nice condition overall, as is the trim and bright work. There are a few imperfections found in some of the trim pieces, but they are in nice overall condition and appear to be correct. The chrome wheel covers display the center SS emblems and are in beautiful condition. The white wall Hercules Touring Radial tires add a nice finishing touch to the overall look of this Nova.
The interior of the SS is finished in red, pleated vinyl upholstery with chrome accent pieces. The red upholstery, red door panels and red carpet all appear to be in very nice condition and show little visible wear. The dash is beautiful and displays the Super Sport gauge package. The gauges are all in very nice condition as are the chrome knobs and the chrome accent pieces. The gauges function as designed apart from the temperature gauge and the clock. The floor mounted shifter is encased in a chrome console which is a very nice complement to the red bucket seats and red carpet. The inside of the vinyl top is in beautiful overall condition and fits as designed. The red steering wheel is beautiful and the chrome horn center section displays the words “Super Sport”. The condition of the interior is impressive and shows very well overall for being an older restoration.
The Nova’s engine compartment has been well detailed and painted and is home to the upgraded 283 ci V-8 engine with an Edelbrock carburetor and dual exhaust. The 1963 Novas came standard with either a four or six-cylinder motor. There were stories of Chevrolet dealers offering an option of purchasing a small block V-8 crate motor and having the dealership install the motor. There is the possibility that the 283 ci V-8 motor may have been installed by a dealership or possibly another source. The V-8 power is transferred to the rear wheels through the 2-speed Powerglide automatic transmission. The motor runs well and strong and the transmission shifts nicely and operates quietly.
This 1963 Nova Super Sport comes complete with Chevrolet branded floor mats and a nice quality car cover. This Nova SS is ready to tour and show as part of a Chevrolet enthusiasts’ collection.
