THE ESSENTIALS
Off to New Hampshire!! This is a beautiful 1962 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II saloon that has 81,000 miles, wonderful front and rear air conditioning and has just completed a $28,000 bare metal repaint. Having five previous owners from new, with its last owner of 24 years, this Rolls has been in the RROC since it was new in 1962. This is an example that has always been loved and well maintained and drives as nice as it looks. This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud that can be shown or toured in.
Ordered new through JS Inskip of New York for H. Max Ammerman, Esq, the renowned lawyer and Washington DC real estate developer, this Rolls was delivered new on July 5th, 1962 for special London delivery before being shipped to Washington DC from Liverpool on December 7, 1962. Mr. Ammerman was just 55 years old when he acquired the Rolls and he promptly joined the RROC. Read more details about Max from The Washington Post: H Max Ammerman
By 1968, the Rolls was acquired by Lt. Col. Thomas E Hauss in San Francisco, CA and by June of 1973 it had been acquired by Ted L Walters from Seminole, FL. In 1989, Paul T Dermond from Seminole, FL acquired the Rolls and in 1999 it was acquired by Coleman Henry from St. Petersburg, FL. Mr. Coleman enjoyed the Rolls primarily to drive to the golf club and to dinner for the next 24 years.
Classic Promenade commenced a full bare metal repaint using Vintage Auto in Temecula, CA, a restoration shop that we have been using for two decades. The $28,000 investment included all new seals and gaskets and further restoration, as necessary. We have 215 photos of the repaint and restoration work in addition to the 151 photos and three videos for the sale of the car on our website.
The livery is stunning in its newly painted two-toned Shell Gray over Dark Blue with Light Blue pinstriping. The paint is gorgeous and was done correctly as per the factory scheme for two toned Silver Clouds. The chrome and stainless-steel trim are beautiful and there are only minimal small dings in the bumper overriders. The wide white walled Coker American Classic radials allow for a comfortable and safe ride. Overall, the exterior is in excellent condition.
The interior appears to be remarkably original and restored only as needed. Most of the leather appears to be original in its Blue Leather (VM 3244), which appears as a Gray-Blue leather. The leather is soft and supple and without tears. There is normal creasing from use, but the leather is in overall excellent original condition. The burl walnut wood is also very nice throughout. The picnic tray in front and the two rear seat picnic tables are in very nice condition. The carpet is a matching Gray Wilton wool with overlays in matching carpeting. The interior features the dual front and rear air conditioning, electric windows, a modern stereo and all of the instruments work well. The clock is not functioning.
The engine compartment has been recently detailed and looks very nice. The venerable 6.23-liter V8 proved to be the longest produced V8 in automobile history. It has proven to be very robust, powerful and smooth. The Rolls has been fully serviced including tune up, hoses and fluid changes, air conditioning recharge and service. The Rolls starts easily warm or cold and is comfortable to drive even with the air conditioning on and in our 100 degrees plus F temperatures. Even in 100-degree temperatures, the oil pressure and operating temperatures were strong, which one would expect from a well maintained 81,000-mile Silver Cloud. The front and rear mounted air conditioning has been converted to 134a refrigerant and work very well.
This Rolls comes complete with its original Owner’s handbook, most all of the small and large tools, jack and spare tire.
