THE ESSENTIALS
This well cared for 1949 Cadillac Series 61 Sedan is owned by a long-time Cadillac collector and is a wonderful example for car shows and touring. She has benefitted from an older restoration and runs and drives beautifully with a recent servicing and brakes. She’s not a trailer queen but rather a very nice weekend driver that is a joy to drive. We love the beautiful chrome and stainless trim on this Cadillac.
This Series 61 is currently owned by a Cadillac collector in West River, Maryland that has been collecting for several decades. At about 90 years of age, he has decided to begin reducing the size of his collection. He has owned this Series 61 for several years and she has been well maintained and driven regularly. The current owner purchased her from a fellow Cadillac LaSalle Club member from Maryland. Her earlier history is unknown.
The livery is a rich Black (Paint Code 1) that is in touring condition having a very nice shine and luster. There are several paint imperfections, but she shows well overall. The body is very straight and appears to be rust free. The bumpers have been re-chromed and are in overall nice condition. The undercarriage is clean and rust-free but does show expected patina for her age and use. The trunk area is very clean and nicely detailed. Her hubcaps and wheels all show well. She has recently been fitted with Cooper white wall tires which really enhance the ride quality and they look sharp. The windows have all been tinted and the driver’s side windshield glass has a crack (but it is flat glass). The trunk latch has been replaced.
The Cadillac’s interior shows well throughout. The Tan Dual Cord and Tan Plain Broadcloth upholstery (Trim Code 38) was reupholstered several years ago and shows well with a few minor imperfections. The door panels have also been reupholstered. The headliner is original and shows very well. Her brown carpet is in nice condition and shows little wear. The original steering wheel is leather-covered, and the leather is in nice condition. Most of the control knobs are original and correct. The chrome on the dashboard is in great condition and the instruments are functioning. The clock is not functioning.
The engine compartment is very clean and nicely detailed and painted throughout. Her 331 cid Overhead Valve V-8 runs well and produces 160 hp. The power is transferred to the rear wheels through her 4-speed Hydramatic Automatic Transmission which shifts well and performs quietly.
This Series 61 Sedan runs and drives beautifully. With her recent tune up, service and newer radial tires, she would be an excellent example for tours and local car shows.
