Harry's Thoughts
THE ESSENTIALS
PRICE REDUCED!! This is a one owner, 9,200 miles from new, fully loaded 1990 Maserati Biturbo Spyder i Zagato that is incredibly close to being in showroom condition. As part of a collection of about 50 Rolls-Royces, this has been used sparingly and has been serviced and loved as only a one owner 31-year-old sports touring convertible can be. With fewer than 20 imported into the US, this is incredibly rare today.
This Zagato was bought new from Continental Motor Sports in Hinsdale, IL in 1990. The owner paid a $10,000 premium over the MSRP value in order to acquire this example. This Maserati is 100% original with the exception of the batteries and oil changes. Even the radials are the original, having covered 9,200 miles and stored in climate controlled garages since new. It has never seen rain and the undercarriage has never been detailed, yet look at how pristine it is today. As far as we know, it is the only example in Snow White in 1990 and we have never seen another with the full air damn, spoiler and side and rear molding options. Making this not only one of the nicest extant, but truly unique.
This Spyders livery is finished in its original Swan White (Paint Code 231.018) and is complimented with its perfect original black canvas manually operated convertible top. The Swan White paint is in nearly perfect condition with only minute small scratches or slight imperfections. The original twin tan coachstripes are still perfect today and accentuate its rakish design. This Spyder features the rare and optional front air dam that is pristine, side and rear body moldings and a rear decklid spoiler. The upgraded alloy wheels are in excellent condition with no road rash.
There has not been any paintwork, and is free from any accidents and mishaps. The convertible top rear window is clear and in excellent condition.
The interior is also nearly showroom new in its contrasting tan leather and tan sueded leather seating. The optional sport seating is comfortable and sporty, and looks terrific. The interior is awash in leather and burl wood, both in fantastic condition. There are no cracks or discoloration in the wood, at all. It is perfect from our inspection, as one would expect from an example with one collector-owner from new. The padded convertible top boot is beautiful in matching suede on the inside (to protect the top) and tan leather on the outside.
The engine compartment is impressive with its red painted engine, chrome turbo plumbing and Swan White sides. It is in show condition today. It has been faithfully serviced and all functions work well, including the air conditioning. The 2.8 liter 18 valve V6 produces 225 hp with its twin intercooled turbochargers. The four-speed automatic transmission makes for a very comfortable drive through city traffic.
This Maserati comes complete with its original manuals and leather storage portfolio. If you are considering a Biturbo, this is one to take seriously. You will likely never find one this nice with this kind of provenance. For a valuation comparison, Bonham’s recently sold one for $22,400 that would need a complete restoration to be as nice as ours.
