Harry's Thoughts

I love Alfa spiders. The top-of-the-line Quadrifoglio edition has a few added Pininfarina touches that really make it an 80's iconic sportscar. Quadrifoglio is Italian for "four leaf clover" which was Alfa's original motorsports emblem.

THE ESSENTIALS

This is a 77,000 mile, California and Arizona original 1987 Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio Pininfarina spider.  These top-of-the-line spiders are increasingly hard to find in original condition.  It is nearly rust and appears to be accident free.  This example comes with loads of extras and is equipped with well functioning air conditioning.

We love the silver Quadrifoglio’s with the gray leather and contrasting red carpeting.  The overall condition of the car is very good and it will prove to be an enjoyable tour car as well as to display at local shows.

The car has just returned from being serviced by the engineers at Service First here in Phoenix.  They completed a service and repaired items as needed.  The engine is excellent and strong with excellent performance.  The car runs and drives wonderfully in all respects.  Just as you would expect with a 77k mile car.

Read about the documented history of the car below, the 158-point inspection report and please carefully inspect the 100+ photos in the gallery.   This Quad comes complete with the original factory hardtop, original keys, owners manual, warranty book,  and many service and registration receipts.

It is rare to see all original and unmolested Alfa spiders.  This example is in very good condition.  It wears much of its original silver paint from the factory.  There may have been some additional paintwork and the passengers door has a faint mismatch in paint from the rest of the car.  Any paintwork was performed years ago.  There are no dents or scratches, but there are several small chips from normal use.  It also has its original matching Quadrifoglio Pininfarina Hardtop, a special design for this top-of-the-line model that had a $22,500 MSRP!!

The sporty interior is mostly all original and looks very nice.  We love the authentic Nardi wood steering wheel.  The original gray leather seats are in nice condition and may be used as is for many years.  The passenger seat is the original leather and the drivers seat has been replaced professionally in a matching vinyl.  Overall the interior is good.   The original red carpeting is in very nice condition both in the passenger area, the storage area behind the seats and in the trunk.  We love the bright red carpeting!  It looks stunning in the otherwise conservative black and gray color scheme.  The dash pad has two cracks, a common problem for these Alfas.  The original leather wrapped steering wheel is included in the sale.  Alfa floor mats are included and look great.  A JVC Am/FM CD player has been added.

The soft top is likely the newer and is as-new.  It is the correct black canvas top and is in excellent condition.  The rear window plastic is in perfect condition.

The full compliment of instruments and gauges all work.  The Pirelli radials are in nice condition.  The larger but lighter weight 15 inch Quadrifoglio wheels are unique for this model and are in very nice condition with a very cool looking Alfa crested logo for the center caps.  The air conditioning works well, too!

The brakes and handling of the car are fine.  It is very tight and supple.  This Alfa comes complete with a shop manual, original sales brochure and loads of Alfa goodies that the seller has collected at various Monterrey Motor Week events and such.

History of this Alfa Spider-

Interesting Fact: The original Alfa Romeo Spider is a two-seater sports car that was comprised of two series: the 105 and 115. This vehicle was the successor to the Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider and was produced from 1966 to 1994.   At the 36th Geneva Motor Show, the Spider was released with an inline four-cylinder engine that produced 108 horsepower. Five-speed and three-speed transmissions were attached over the years which gave the vehicle a high variability depending on the model chosen. In 1993, production on the original Spider ended and a new variant was released a year later.   This newer model had a much shorter production period that only spanned about 10 years. During that time, only 39,000 Spiders were built, but this car was still a popular one among the car collectors’ community and is an esteemed choice for any sports car lover!
