Harry's Thoughts

This is a lovely Silver Wraith that has been restored only as needed. This exudes elegance and a classic style with a drivetrain that can easily keep up with modern traffic.

THE ESSENTIALS

NO RESERVE.  See inspection report, full photos, videos and more at classicpromenade.com.

We are pleased to present this beautiful  restored as-needed 1952 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith Hooper “Teviot III” Touring Limousine (chassis No. WVH33) that is a rust-free and beautiful example.   The last RROC owner enjoyed and cherished her for 48 years.  WVH33 is a Hooper Touring Limousine with Body Design No. 8283 and Body Number 8735.  This is one of only 15 examples of this body design built during 1951.

The two tone Masons Black and Tan livery is in excellent condition with beautiful luster and shine. Although an older repaint, it is in beautiful overall condition. There are a few small dings and areas near where the hood opens and by the running lights which exhibit very fine cracking, most of which is not noticeable without close inspection.  The chrome and stainless trim are all excellent, with no noticeable imperfections. The radiator shell has the expected light scratches in the stainless. We love the style of the Hooper-designed rear quarter light glass. And the Lucas P100 headlights are beautiful and give the car an imposing and formal pre-War appearance.  It also features the center driving light and two auxiliary Lucas fog lights.

The interior is also in beautiful condition with only minimal patina.  It is obvious that this is an example that has been very well maintained and loved.  The sand colored leather is soft and supple with only minimal wear present. There are no rips or tears.  The leather appears to have been replaced many years ago and is in very nice condition.  The arms rests in the rear passenger compartment have some cracking, likely because it may be original leather from new.

The wood grain is beautifully contrasted and is in very nice condition. There are no noticeable cracks or issues, it is in overall very good to excellent condition throughout.   The rear compartment has a beautiful cocktail cabinet, twin picnic tables and the fold down foot rests for the rear passengers.  The matching sand Wilton wool carpeting is done just right and in very good condition.  The rear has what appears to be its original sand colored mouton sheepskin overlay over the carpets- the ultimate in luxury and elegance.  The rear passenger compartment also features a subtle vanity mirror slipped into the drivers side armrest and the division window is operated from very delicate switches.  This Hooper limousine also features a multi-band radio and the tool kit is nearly complete and is under the passenger side glove box.  The steering wheel has some normal small cracking as shown in the photo gallery.

The engine compartment is fairly well detailed and present itself very well as a well maintained example.  All the evidence suggests that this is a relatively low mileage example: the wear is minimal on the pedals, no wear near the keyhole for the ignition lock and the overall wear of the car.  The car drives tight and is responsive.  The 4.6 liter engine combined with its four-speed manual transmission results in a very smooth and reliable drivetrain.  The undercarriage was undercoated when new and is all original, never having been detailed.  The leather gators wrapping the rear leave springs are all intact and in good condition, confirming that this Rolls had not been exposed to inclimate weather for years while in England.

WVH33 was delivered new to the United Dominion Trust Bank in January 1953 and it still wears its original license plate, MYX1.  According to Rolls-Royce factory records, WVH33 was had been imported into the United States in the late 1960’s.  David H. Stockwell from Wilmington, DE was the first owner in the US.  Mr. Stockwell sold it to George P. Kingsley of Betheleham, PA.  Finally, Mr. David E. Block acquired the car on March 5th of 1970.  Mr. Block was a longtime RROC club member and WVH33 has been listed in the Club directories throughout his ownership, spanning nearly 50 years upon its sale on April 16, 2018 to our consignment client. Mr. Block’s earliest addresses include 240 Central Park South in NYC and also 4411 Empire State Building.

WVH33 comes complete with a shop and service manual and its original owners manual.  It also comes compete with an entire host of historical documents, service receipts, spare keys, etc.  There are detailed notes dating back to 1954 regarding its regular maintenance.  All documents and notes are included in the sale of this Silver Wraith.  Our 158-point inspection report is published on our site for this Rolls.  We’ve driven her for about 25 miles, including on the highway, and she drives and operates well.

Interesting Fact: The Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith is a four-door saloon style vehicle that was produced by the company from 1946 to 1958. In accordance with the typical trend of Rolls-Royce vehicles, only 1,883 units were produced over those years; creating a natural rarity for the vehicle. Under the hood, Rolls-Royce postwar straight six engine was added along with a four-speed manual transmission (automatic transmission became available for the model starting in 1952). This model was based heavily upon the prewar Rolls-Royce wraith that was only in production for a single year. Over the years, the Silver Wraith has been used by quite a number of famous members of society. In fact, this vehicle is still the Presidential car for both the Irish and Brazilian presidents. It also has been used as the Royal Dutch State Limousine and been featured in many movies. This widespread fame has always made the Silver Wraith popular, but it is more so now due to its status as a classic vehicle!
