THE ESSENTIALS
This is a solid, rust free original 1958 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham that can be enjoyed as is, but more likely a great car to take to the next level. The interior is all original and gorgeous! We love the light gray brocade and gray leather interior, especially with the designer styled seating. Even the lush custom light gray carpet looks nearly as new, with little to no signs of wear. With very little effort, this interior could be near perfect. It is all original and in excellent condition. This substantiates the 62,000 miles on the odometer.
According to the VIN plate, the Brougham was originally built as a black car. At some point decades ago, perhaps even when new, the car was repainted in the authentic Lake Placid metallic blue. Interestingly, we’ve not been able to see any evidence of the original black anywhere on the car except in the door jambs. We ran a paint meter over the car and it conveys that the exterior was sanded down to metal or nearly so before being repainted. The door jambs, however, were just painted over the black. We would recommend that the door jambs be repainted. The paint today has gorgeous luster, but has several areas that need to be touched up. With the touch up and door jambs repainted the paint would be gorgeous!
The chrome and stainless trim are in overall nice condition. There are a couple of pieces of stainless that need straightening and while the rear bumpers were re-chromed the front bumper should be re-chromed to make it much nicer.
This Brougham was stored for over 40 years decades in the Denver area and was bought by our consignment client about five years ago. He has since invested in a recommissioning of the car as well as performing some cosmetic improvements. It runs and drives well and nearly all the accessories work. We love the electrically operated trunk opener and closer. This car does not suffer from a host of electrical gremlins that can often be the case.
The engine compartment has benefited from some detailing. You can see from the photos that it has been painted pretty well. The heater and air conditioning are not functioning, but pretty much all other systems work. The oil pressure and operating temperature is good and the car feels solid on the road. Everything feels tight and in good operating order. The engine would benefit from resealing as it leaks more oil than we care to see. The brakes and the air suspension both work fine, but will need further attention to make excellent. It would also benefit from the installation of a new exhaust system.
