From the Driver’s Seat - Our team’s personal take on what makes this classic stand out
THE ESSENTIALS
The 1946 Lincoln Continental Club Coupe is a striking postwar coupe powered by Lincoln’s V12 engine driven by a three-speed manual transmission, and this example is in overall excellent condition with 21,761 miles showing. The Continental is finished in maroon with a rear-mounted continental spare tire, steel wheels with wide whitewall tires, and a maroon leather and cloth interior. This Continental has great paint, an award-winning show history, and the elegance that collectors love!
The 1946 model year marked the return of the Continental following the wartime production halt, continuing the design legacy of Edsel Ford’s original personal luxury car. The 1946 Lincoln Continental is recognized as a ‘Full Classic’ by the Classic Car Club of America. This example comes from long-term Arizona ownership and is a documented show winner, taking Best of Show and Best Classic at the 2022 RRHS Cheer Booster Club Car Show, Best in Show at Silver Springs in April 2022, and the Mayor’s Pick award presented by the Town of Sahuarita. The Continental is accompanied by an owner’s manual, a binder of service records and receipts, and a library of period Ford, Mercury, and Lincoln service manuals and bulletins!
The exterior of the Lincoln is finished in maroon that is in overall great condition with good depth and color, no fading, and only some light scratches, touched-up spots, and minimal rock chips. The chrome and brightwork are in great condition with some wear and scratching showing, and the windshield and glass are in great condition. The Continental has its signature rear-mounted spare tire, steel wheels with BF Goodrich wide whitewall tires, functioning headlights and taillights, and a working horn. The Lincoln is a lovely example that maintains its classic Continental presentation!
The interior of the Lincoln is in overall excellent condition, featuring a maroon leather and brown cloth combination with excellent maroon carpeting, maroon piping, and an excellent headliner. The Continental is equipped with power windows that are functioning on both the driver and passenger sides. Instrumentation includes a functioning speedometer, fuel gauge, oil pressure gauge, amperage gauge, and engine temperature gauge, with a clock that is not working. The cabin presents as well preserved and ready to enjoy.
Mechanically, the Lincoln is powered by its V12 engine equipped with a carburetor and three-speed manual transmission. The Continental has been converted to a 12-volt electrical system with alternator charging, a rebuilt starter, and a battery cutoff switch installed for storage. Recent service records document a fuel pump replacement, new shock links, fresh fuel lines, and regular oil and lubrication service. The heater hoses are currently not connected to the heater core. The Lincoln starts, runs, and drives great!
