Harry's Thoughts

This Fleetwood Brougham is the pinnacle of luxury. This Brougham has accumulated 35k Miles from new, with 2,500 miles added in April '24 driving it from Spokane to Phoenix for us to offer it on consignment! This Brougham needs nothing to be enjoyed!

THE ESSENTIALS

This is a true 35,000-mile example of the luxurious and exclusive 1966 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham that has been beautifully preserved its entire life.  The Fleetwood Brougham was Cadillacs top-of-the-line non limousine offering and includes standard upgrades such as a fully padded vinyl roof treatment, special “Brougham” nomenclature, carpeted rear seat footrests and adjustable reading lamps, walnut trim, and lighted rear seat writing tables.  This Fleetwood Brougham is wonderful original condition save for one repaint in its original color.  This Brougham was loved and faithfully preserved by one family for 49 years!

HISTORY: This Brougham was acquired when it was new in the Spring of 1966 through Miller-Stephan Cadillac of Boise, ID.  The Brougham had not seen inclement weather as its undercarriage has been kept in a pristine state, devoid of the normal Cadillac surface rust.  It was lovingly cared for by its fastidious owner until his passing in the late 1980’s.  Records affixed to the door jambs in red embossing tape indicate one of the last services performed by the original owner was in April 1984.  At the time the car had 19,234 miles.  The car remained in the family for 30 years after his passing and was properly stored and rarely driven until the family estate sold it in the fall of 2015.  In 2015, the Cadillac had amassed 23,692 miles from new and was still wearing its original tires.

Comprehensive mechanical service work had been performed in 2015 to recommission the Cadillac.  This included going through the fuel system, brakes, suspension, tires, and exhaust.  The Brougham still had its beautiful original paint with only the hood showing some prior paint work.  By 2018, the Cadillac had received a new repaint in its original Strathmore White (Paint Code 12).  By 2019, the Brougham had accumulated 23,800 miles and was acquired by its present owner, Marc Fleming of Spokane, Washington.

Mr. Fleming has serviced and driven the Brougham regularly.  In the past four years, he has added 12,000 miles, including a 2,500-mile tour driving it from Spokane to Classic Promenade to consign it for sale with us.  The Brougham now has 35,895 miles accumulated from new and is in splendid condition both cosmetically and mechanically.

EXTERIOR:  The livery is in Strathmore White (Paint Code 12) that was beautifully repainted about six years ago.  The shine and luster are excellent.  There is one small touched up scratch on the driver’s front fender, the rest of the paint is in beautiful condition.  The chrome and stainless-steel trim are all in very good to excellent condition, reflecting the quality of Cadillacs build and the love and care extended to this example through its life.  The Black Cross Grain Padded Roof (Trim Code 62) is original and in spectacular condition.  Overall, the exterior is in gorgeous condition.

INTERIOR:  The interior is all original and in spectacular condition in its Black Dartmoor Cloth and Black Leather upholstery (Trim Code 011) featuring Fleetwood’s three-pillow style seating.  The interior is all original and shows little to no wear throughout, as one would expect from a mere 35,000 miles of use.  The Black deep pile carpet is also in excellent original condition with accessory Cadillac mats having always been in use.  The walnut trim is also in excellent original condition needing nothing.  Mr. Fleming also added an accessory color coordinated pillow for the rear seat passengers which presently sits on the parcel shelf.

ACCESSORY OPTIONS: The optional accessories offered on this Brougham include Soft Ray Glass (Option E), 6-Way Power Seat (Y), Remote Control Deck Release (S), Power Door Locks (M), Auto-Climate Control (K) and Rear Window Defogger (B).  Also included are standard features for the Fleetwood Brougham, including Cruise Control, Twilight Sentinel, AM/FM Stereo with Electric Arial, footrests, writing desks, reading lights and arm rests for both the front and back seats, ample walnut trim throughout and so much more.  The clock and the washer fluid sprayer (not tested) are the only items we are aware of that are not functioning.

ENGINE & DRIVETRAIN: The engine compartment has been completely detailed and the Brougham has been fully serviced after its 2,500-mile journey.  The venerable 429 cu in V8 produces 340 hp and an incredible 651 Nm of torque being driven through GM’s Turbo Hydra-Matic THM 400 three speed automatic transmission.  The suspension and its 133-inch wheelbase chassis are all in excellent rust-free condition.

It is rare to find such a low-mileage example of the very desirable Brougham.  We have this example priced well as the Hagerty No. 2 Value is $38,500.  See the Hagerty value here: 1966 Cadillac Fleetwood 60 Special Brougham | Hagerty Valuation Tools

In 1965, the "Brougham" name was first affixed to "Fleetwood" on the Fleetwood Sixty Special as an upgraded option package, which included a vinyl roof and special "Brougham" script lettering on the sides, but it was not a separate model. In 1966, the Fleetwood Brougham was added as a separate model, accompanying the Fleetwood 60 Special, which continued through 1970. In 1971, with the Fleetwood Brougham outselling the Fleetwood 60 Special by a large margin, the two models were consolidated into a single model, the Fleetwood 60 Special Brougham, and would continue with this name through 1976. The car's name was shortened to Fleetwood Brougham with the 1977 downsizing across the GM car line. The "d'Elegance" and "Talisman" sub-models were also sometimes used to designate upgraded option packages.
