Now live on Bring A Trailer—click here to see the auction.

The 1939 Packard 1708 Touring Sedan represents the final chapter of Packard’s legendary V-12 era, a culmination of prewar American luxury engineering and craftsmanship. This example, chassis 1234-2078, presents with strong mechanical preservation, a documented history of respected ownership, and thoughtful servicing that makes the Packard well suited for touring, local and regional events. Highlighted by the 7.8L V12, dual side-mount spares, and an elegant black finish, the Packard offers an authentic prewar driving experience rooted in exceptional engineering.

Originally sold on July 25, 1939 in Kansas City, this Touring Sedan is one of only 446 Packard Twelve examples built for the model year and is likely among the final dozen produced before V-12 production ended on August 8, 1939. The Packard remained with its first family for nearly 30 years before being acquired by a museum, which preserved the example for nearly four decades and completed the mechanical recommissioning. The third owner, Richard Paley, invested in extensive restorative work between 2017 and 2019, including rebuilding the brake, clutch, wiper, and shock systems, refinishing the upholstery and wood trim, repositioning the front seat, and installing new window shades. A restoration plaque confirms the craftsmanship completed by Wayne Motors Auto Body under the advisement of Viktor Tkaczenko. Mr. Paley successfully showed the Packard locally, earning Best of Show in 2018. The current owner has cared for the Touring Sedan since 2020, adding fewer than 1,000 miles while storing it in a climate-controlled environment and driving it for Packard Club outings and weekend cruises.

The exterior of the Packard presents beautifully in deep black paint in overall very good condition with minor imperfections and one ding in the driver’s side door. The prominent front grill shows normal wear from age and use, and is beautifully complemented by a brilliant chrome Cormorant hood ornament designed by Werner Gubitz. The dual side mirrors, headlamps, and fog lamps all appear clear and well preserved. Dual fender-mounted spare wheels are enclosed in painted black steel covers, and the 16-inch wheels wear BFGoodrich 235/85/R16 tires in excellent condition with chrome Packard Twelve caps. The rear luggage rack folds cleanly and accommodates a substantial trunk, supporting the Packard’s touring capabilities. The running boards show modest age-consistent wear, but the structure and presentation remain sound. Four doors, including rear coach doors, open to a grand, formal Packard profile befitting the flagship Twelve.

Inside, the Touring Sedan features tan mohair upholstery in excellent to very good condition, showing only minor surface blemishes and seam loosening at the edges. The front bench, rear bench with fold-down armrest, and dual rear jump seats allow for spacious seven-passenger accommodation. The headliner is in excellent condition except for one faded area above the driver’s seat. The burl walnut trim enriches the cabin with period-correct warmth, while the dash is equipped with factory gauges, a front cabin heater, and an AM radio. A metal steering wheel with Packard emblem enamel center and the right-hand “Handi-shift” column lever add authenticity to the driving environment. Beige wool carpeting exhibits some wear, with the rear cabin benefiting from a plush gray overlay in very good condition. The mohair headliner is clean and presents well, and all lateral glass operates smoothly via chrome window cranks.

Powering the Touring Sedan is its original 7.8-liter V12, engine number 473, rated at 175 horsepower and paired with a 3-speed column-shift manual transmission and Stromberg carburetor. The Packard features power drum brakes for confident stopping, independent front suspension with coil springs and shocks, and leaf springs at the rear. The factory-correct single exhaust system maintains quiet operation, and the 6-volt positive-ground electrical system includes an added battery shut-off switch beneath the driver’s seat for ease and safety. The Packard has been maintained with thoughtful mechanical attention, showing mileage of 54,166, and remains well suited for relaxed touring and local exhibition.

This is a gorgeous award-winning winning example of a truly unique custom built 1937 Packard Twelve Model 1508 Berline that is ready for concours competition or touring. Having been fully restored and awarded top honors with the CCCA and concours events in the 1990’s, it has recently benefitted from a full cosmetic and mechanical refreshening. This is a wonderful opportunity to acquire a truly unique classic to use and enjoy. The Packard factory transformed the Club Sedan body by extending the front door section and fitting it to the longer, 144-inch wheelbase. We love the balanced proportions of this unique truly Packard.

The Berline is a factory custom that enjoys the attributes of a Club Sedan on the longer 144-inch wheelbase (Model 1508). This is believed to be the only Berline created by Packard in 1937. Books and research indicate that this Packard was special ordered for the youngest daughter of the president of the Great Northern Railroad, Mr. James J. Hill.

By the 1971, the Berline was acquired by the well-known collector, Jack Shy. Mr. Shy commenced a complete restoration and campaigned it through the top levels of the Classic Car Club of America and major concours events. By 1989, the Berline earned the Premier Senior Award number and was shown at the Meadowbrook Concours. It was also featured in Beverly Rae Kimes groundbreaking book The Classic Era. It was later acquired by Mr. Tenny Natkin from Illinois and in 2012 the Berline was acquired by its present owner.

In 2014, the Berline was sent to Dave Mitchell of Geneseo, Illinois, a noted Packard restoration expert, to benefit from an engine and transmission rebuild as well as various cosmetic updates. The Berline remains in high point condition and runs and drives beautifully partly due to its high-speed rear end, which allows it to be driven at 70-80 mph for touring.

Finished in Packard’s Regatta Blue, the paint is in overall very nice condition. There are a few small touched up scratches primarily in the common use areas such as the hood opening, etc. There are also small areas with slight cracking, such as near the rear taillight. Overall, the paint looks fantastic and unless it is being carefully examined the blemishes are not visible. The paint is contrasted by light gray double pinstripes that look just right. The chrome and stainless steel are all in excellent condition. The Berline is well accessorized with a luggage rack, a Packard logoed painted trunk, dual Trippe Speedlights and dual side mounted spares.

The interior is gorgeous in its gray wool broadcloth. The upholstery shows some minor wear on the bottom driver’s seat bolster. The gray wool carpeting is also in very nice condition showing little to no wear.

The Berlines dashboard is in excellent restored condition and all of the instruments except the clock work well. The Berline benefits from very rare accessories, some of which we’ve not seen before. In the beautifully woodgrained dash is an AM radio and below is a rare Packard amplifier and speaker. The Berline has both a front heater and defroster as well as a rarely seen rear heater.

The Berline features a roll-up division window for occasional chauffer use. The rear compartment has footrests, and in the armrests small slots holding a vanity mirror and a notepad with a pen. It also has dual ashtrays with proper cat’s eye cigar lighters. Both the front and rear passenger compartments have dark blue wool carpet overlays to protect the light gray carpet.

The venerable Packard 473 CID V12 is whisper quiet and pulls with impressive power. The engine compartment is well detailed and is in high point condition today. The three-speed transmission shifts well but does grind slightly if you quickly shift through the gears. The high-speed rear end is noticeable immediately as you shift through the gears and will allow for highway touring at modern-day speeds. The chassis was well restored and looks terrific today.

Included in the sale is an original shop manual, an impressive number of awards and trophies and a copy of The Classic Era.

For more information and details, please call or text Harry Clark at +1.623.404.9042 or email us at sales@classicpromenade.com. This Packard is available for inspection in Connecticut. We are pleased to offer in person or FaceTime or WhatsApp live video inspections and we help coordinate shipping worldwide. We also have financing partners if you are interested in financing.

This 1939 Packard Twelve Touring Cabriolet by Brunn was the most expensive and exclusive Twelve ever authorized by Packard. This is one of two made in 1939 and was hand built in the Brunn coachworks in Buffalo, NY. Being sold new by the Earl C Anthony “Dealers to the Stars” franchise in Los Angeles, it was bought new by music and film legend Ray Noble on April 21, 1939. Since then, it has been beautifully preserved as a gorgeous original car with minimal restoration work performed over the years. It is now ready to be shown at any major concours event or added to a collection.

Brunn & Co. was a premier coachbuilder that earned Packard’s respect to build a small number of Cabriolets in 1938 and 1939. These featured Brunn’s innovative “Neutralite” tinted skylights to allow the chauffer to see the streetlights. These Cabriolets were designed to be the ultimate big city limousine allowing the rear seat passenger to be seen by the public at a moment’s notice by folding down the rear top. These were the most expensive Packard Twelves ever built with Packard’s authorization. While these were “Catalog Customs”, these were in fact complete coach-built masterpieces. Packard shipped two Model 1708 chassis to the Brunn facility in Buffalo, NY in 1939 to build the Touring Cabriolets (Style 4086).

Brunn’s coachwork is all hand formed aluminum and is in spectacular condition today. The build quality is absolutely breathtaking. This Cabriolet sold new for $8,355, a massive sum in 1939.

This Twelve was shipped from Brunn to Earl C. Anthony in Los Angeles. The fist owner was Ray Noble, who gain fame first in his homeland of England but by 1934 had moved to New York to play at the prestigious Rainbow Room. Shortly thereafter, Ray moved to Los Angeles and was a highly respected bandleader and score writer for Hollywood movies. He also gained acclaim as the “Silly Englishman” in a variety of comedies. This Brunn has been part of the collection of several noted collectors over the decades. She was more recently owned for many years by the late enthusiast Sam DelRusso Sr., of Connecticut, and was acquired from his estate by Robert Castignetti, of Massachusetts. Mr. and Mrs. Kughn acquired the car sometime later. In 2014 it joined a prominent collection in Louisiana.

The livery is in its original Black lacquer that is absolutely stunning. All of our research and representations by former owners suggested that the black paint was original. Not trusting this, we had a paint expert analyze it while touching up two areas and he confirmed that it is original. It has incredible depth and luster and truly looks like a more recent repaint. The upper tan paint has been redone and is in excellent condition. The tan canvas has been replaced and is in very good to excellent condition. The chrome and stainless steel are all very good to excellent. All of the Brunn coachwork is hand formed from aluminum with only the front clip being Packard steel. The doors and convertible top close like bank vaults, as though Brunn somehow was able to amplify its impact. The twin Trippe Safety Lights complete the front end with its grill painted in the only-in-1939 manner. The dual side mounts have the Packard See-Rite mirrors and the rear has a proper Packard trunk rack. The two tinted “Neutralite” skylights are still in very nice condition and we love the deep veed windshield that has a wonderful sleek rake to it. The more time we spend with this Packard, the more we love it.

The interior is just incredible. The interior is largely original. We believe that the carpets have been replaced. We know of nothing else that has been replaced. It is believed that the upholstery, headliner, trim and wood are all original, save for maintenance to the wood. As one would expect, this Brunn is replete with options, including the AM radio, dual heater controls, a Jaeger 8-Day clock set into the division window and beautiful bookended walnut trim in every direction. The interior is simply gorgeous. The deluxe steering wheel has a couple of cracks from age and has never been restored or painted. The Packard comes complete with a significant number of keys (original and copies), shop and owner’s manual and other materials.

The engine compartment houses the venerable Packard 473 cid V12 with 175 hp. The engine compartment is well detailed and looks very appropriate for most concours events. The v12 has upgraded replacement heads and the engine runs and drive beautifully with excellent power. The three-speed column shift combined with the smooth torque of the V12 really move the shorter 139-inch wheelbase Cabriolet. With its power assisted clutch and brakes, this Packard is a pleasure to drive. The engine is silent and drives without smoke or any issues.

This is an opportunity to acquire one of the most prized senior Packard’s. For more information and details, please call, text or email Harry Clark at +1.623.404.9042 or sales@classicpromenade.com. The Brunn is proudly displayed in our showroom in Phoenix.

This is a beautiful and powerful 1937 Packard Twelve Model 1506 five passenger Touring Sedan that is an older restoration nice enough for concours but configured as a dependable touring car. The restoration of this Packard was completed in about 1999 with many more recent improvements made recently. It was a comprehensive restoration and is documented well in a photograph album and with a huge file of receipts.

This is about the perfect combination of a high point concours quality restoration, but the dependability and details focused on touring. We love classics like this! This is ready for Classic Car Club of America (CCCA) CARavans or Packard club events and tours.

It was a rust-free Arizona car with a photo of a 1966 Arizona license plate documenting its history. It was then bought in about 1974 at an auction in Palm Springs, CA. The car was mid-way through a restoration at that time. By about 1980, it was bought by Mr. Max Whitcomb. His father was the Seattle Packard Co. dealer in 1937, making him very fond of Packards, and 1937 models in particular.

The Champagne Rose metallic paint is in very nice condition and is complimented with a proper double burgundy coach stripe. The shine and luster are excellent and it is polished for show. The paint has a few very small chips which have been touched up. The body prep was excellent as it looks very nice today. The only area that could be improved are in the door jambs. And the door sill plates should be replaced with the presently available reproductions.

The chrome and stainless steel are all very nice to excellent, except one hub cap that is on one of the side mount tires shows some imperfections. The bumpers appear to be freshly chromed and have the correct accent lines painted black.

The Burgundy leather interior is very nice and correctly done. The Burgundy carpet and door panels are all in very nice to excellent condition. The drivers seat shows a little wear, which we show in the photos, but it is from normal touring use. The wood graining finish on the dashboard and window surrounds is all in excellent condition. All of the gauges work as they should and have been restored.

The venerable Packard 473 CI V-12 engine is in excellent condition and was fully rebuilt and more recently fully detailed for concours. The gear vendor overdrive unit was added in March of 2007. This Packard has several inches of receipts for the restoration work performed and a huge stack of nearly 50 years of photographs. The photos include before restoration, during the restoration and afterwards. Some of the most respected restoration shops performed work on this Packard, such as the craftsmen at Murray Motor Car in Monroe, WA.

This Packard has benefitted from several touring upgrades, including: turn signals, four seat belts, an auxiliary electric fuel pump for priming, a battery cut-off switch and dual six volt Optima batteries run in parallel, and wide white walled radial tires for safety and performance. It also has Trippe lights up front and the famous Packard trunk rack in the rear. It is also equipped with the heater and Packard radio.

For more details and information, call or text Harry Clark at +1.623.404.9042 or email us at sales@classicpromenade.com. The Packard Twelve is available for inspection at our Phoenix showroom.

For more information and details, please call, text or email Harry Clark at +1.623.404.9042 or sales@classicpromenade.com. The Packard is available to see in our Phoenix showroom.

This is a beautiful older restoration of the iconic 1936 Packard Twelve Dual Cowl Sport Phaeton (Model 1407) that still shows very well after having earned a CCCA Senior National First place. This Phaeton has been part of some of the most important collections of classics, including being part of the late General William Lyon’s collection for 25 years.

Shown is its classic Packard Blue with light tan leather interior and a tan Haartz cloth canvas convertible top, this has just the right look. The rake of the windshield is perfectly matched with the rear windshield in the rear cowl. This is considered one of the most sporty designs on a Packard, and the execution was brilliant. The 144 inch wheelbase and the venerable Packard twelve engine make this one of the best performing motorcars of the classic era.

In 1983, General William Lyon acquired the Phaeton from Tom Barrett in Arizona. It was part of his beautiful and important collection of classics until 2008, when it was sold to Gordon Apker of Washington. Mr. Apker showed it at the CCCA Grand Classic and earned Senior Badge 2825, winning a national first place. He enjoyed the Packard until 2011, at which time it was acquired by George Karamanolis.

This is one of the ultimate sporty Packards and it has been maintained and enjoyed by very notable collectors throughout the country.

See All the Details at www.classicpromenade.com. Inspection reports available. See full photos, videos and more.

We are pleased to offer for sale this 1936 Packard Twelve Model 1408 Convertible Sedan with division that has been well restored and would be welcome in most any concours event or tour. This Dietrich styled convertible sedan is very rare and one of a few to survive. This Packard Twelve has been collector owned and is documented back to the mid-1970’s.

The Packard Beige paint is in beautiful condition, appearing beige or taupe depending on the light. The livery is complemented by the six 48-spoke wire wheels painted in red with chrome hub caps with Packards iconic red cloisonne center medallions. Also adding to its theme, the taupe Haartz cloth canvas convertible top has red trim throughout. The red accents really bring the combination to life, making it elegant and sporty. The massive chrome bumpers with the famous harmonic balancing ends add to the majestic beauty of this convertible sedan. The paint was done in about 1998, in preparation for the 1999 Packard Centennial celebration in Warren, Ohio. The Haartz cloth convertible tops was installed in January of 2015. We love the fully restored matching exterior trunk that is fitted with a full set of three pieces of matching fitted luggage!! This is perfect for a CCCA CARavan!

The red leather interior compliments the exterior trim and is both beautiful and striking. It was all redone in 2015 and is in excellent condition. The interior wood graining is well done and the wood door cap panels and trim are also well finished. The instruments are all working well and are restored. The convertible top header and top bow have some paint cracking from use and there is one small crack noticeable in the wood graining paint on the steering wheel, which otherwise is very nice. The roll-up division window gives the sense of a more formal limousine and the 144 inch wheelbase reinforces this sense of elegance and presence.

The engine is the famous and powerful Packard Twelve with 473 CID (Dated November 23, 1935) and the three-speed manual transmission shifts smoothly (Dated December 6, 1935). The rear end gearing is 4.41:1. The engine and engine compartment are accurately and well detailed for show but it is apparent that the Packard has had some use. The engine is powerful, quiet, smooth and performs well, exhibiting cool operating temperatures and strong oil pressure. We’ve completed a full service, rebuilt the carburetor and tuned it up. The undercarriage has all been cleaned and painted and is quite presentable. The odometer reading is said to be true at 78,750 miles.

The Packard Twelve is well accessorized including dual side mounted spares with mirrors and covers, Guide Super Ray driving lights, a flared exhaust turndown tip, and the already mentioned trunk with fitted luggage.

HISTORY OF THIS MODEL 1408
The history of this Packard can be documented back to the mid-1970’s, where it benefited from a cosmetic restoration by the owners. They enjoyed showing the motorcar. Upon the passing of the owner, it was stored for over a decade and by the mid-1990’s it had become a “garage find” and offered for sale at an auction in Auburn, Indiana. It was acquired by a collector in Philadelphia for four years before being sold to Marc Ohm from St. Louis. Mr. Ohm is a Packard authority and collector. It then remained in St Louis until the present owner added it to his collection of over 65 motorcars in New Mexico. As mentioned previously, this Packard participated in the Packard Centennial celebration in Warren, Ohio.

The long 144 inch wheelbase and about 5,600 pounds of weight make these Packard Twelves some of the most commanding and smooth driving motorcars of the era. The Packard runs and drives very well. We’ve just completed a full rebuild of the steering box, a full tune up and servicing, so this Packard is ready to use! The radio and clock are not functioning but the rest of the lights, accessories and instruments operate as they should.

For more information please call or text Harry Clark at +1.623.404.9042 or email us at sales@classicpromenade.com. The Packard Twelve can be inspected in New Mexico.

SOLD to Minnesota!! This is a beautiful and powerful 1937 Packard Twelve Model 1506 five passenger Touring Sedan that is an older restoration nice enough for concours but configured as a dependable touring car. The restoration of this Packard was completed in about 1999 with many more recent improvements made recently. It was a comprehensive restoration and is documented pretty well in a photograph album.

This is about the perfect combination of high point concours quality restoration, but the dependability and details set for touring. We love classics like this! This is ready for Classic Car Club of America (CCCA) CARavans or Packard club events and tours. It was a rust free Arizona car with a photo of a 1966 Arizona license plate documenting its history.

The paint has a few very small chips which have nearly all been touched up. The body prep was excellent as it looks very nice today. The only area that could be improved are in the door jambs. The photo gallery shows where the body prep wasn’t as thorough as the rest of the car. And the door sill plates should be replaced with the presently available reproductions.

The chrome and stainless steel are all very nice to excellent, except one hub cap that is on one of the side mount tires shows some imperfections.

The red leather interior is very nice and correctly done. The red carpet and door panels are all in very nice to excellent condition. The drivers seat shows a little wear, which we show in the photos, but it is from normal touring use. The wood graining finish on the dashboard and window surrounds is all in excellent condition.

The venerable Packard 473 CI V-12 engine is in excellent condition and was fully rebuilt and more recently fully detailed for concours. The gear vendor overdrive unit was added in March of 2007. All mechanical functions of the car work well and the car breezed through our 40-point inspection.

For touring, the car has turn signals added, four seat belts, an auxiliary electric fuel pump for priming, a battery cut-off switch and dual six volt Optima batteries run in parallel, and wide white walled radial tires for safety and performance.
