The Light Green Metallic (DB 274 H) livery is truly stunning, whether viewed in doors, in the sunlight or in the shade.  The metallic accentuates the curves that the 190SL is known for and reveals a variety of tones from nearly silver to darker green.  It is a color that we don’t recall ever seeing on a 190SL, but have seen it on 300Sc coupes and cabriolets.  The paint is in overall excellent condition with some areas showing some orange peeling which could be further polished out.  The major chrome items such as the grills, hub caps, trim rings, light surrounds and bumpers are restored and re-plated and all look terrific.  The windshield frame, door handles and mirror are original and exhibit minor pitting from age.  The overall look is stunning.

The tan canvas convertible top is as-new and fits nice and snug.  The dark green top boot also looks new and is in excellent condition and looks fantastic when contrasted with the light green paint.  The new Goodyear radials drive great and look right for a US delivery 190SL with a small white wall.

The Dark Green Leather (Code 1073) interior is also stunning in contrast to the ample use of chrome throughout the interior dash and doors as well as the light green metallic paint.  The carpet is also a mid green with darker green binding which compliments the interior, making it an elegant and sporty look.

The engine compartments is very well detailed, well enough for showing at regional car shows.  The original Solex carbs are included in the sale but have been replaced with Weber carburetors (thank goodness) for performance and reliability.  The original starter has also been replaced with a faster more efficient starter, with the original starter included in the sale.  Also included in the sale are a load of spare parts, all new, an owners manual, original complete tool set and roll as well as the correct 190SL tire pressure gauge.

We drove it extensively in 110 degree heat, and it performed well.  All the instrumentation works well except the temperature gauge is presently not functioning.

This 190SL was purchased new at Dan Gillum Motors in Reno, Nevada on April 15, 1961 by Dayton J. McDonald, DDS.   Dr. McDonald lived through the decades of his ownership in Sparks, NV where the Mercedes was kept in a very dry environment.  Dr. McDonald and his wife enjoyed the 190SL for the next 53 years.  It was kept as a pristine original car, never having seen rust or a hard life.

By 2014, the car was then sold to Ms. Eve Patton.  Ms. Patton was a serious car enthusiast who has participated in a host of vintage rallies, including the Mille Miglia.  Ms. Patton retained noted collector car appraiser Steve Linden to appraise the car and he stated that it was one of the best original 190SLs he had ever seen.  Following her acquisition of the roadster, she commenced a complete restoration that exceeded $100,000.  The detailed invoices and paperwork are all documented in the extensive binder.

The livery on this 190SL was refinished in Signal Red and remains in excellent, showroom condition.  The repaint was performed by Aventura Motors in 2016 at a cost of $38,000.  We love Signal Red on Mercedes roadsters.  This also includes both convertible tops, the Black Haartz cloth convertible top as well as a thoroughly restored black hardtop that really completes the look.   The chrome and stainless are also in showroom condition.

The interior has been all restored and looks terrific in its black leather contrasted with ample amounts of chrome, stainless and Signal Red painted trim.  Together it looks timeless and classic.  The interior work was all performed by Timeless Classic Auto.  The work is excellent and only normal minor use is evident on the leather.

The engine compartment is beautifully detailed for show.  The engine and mechanical restoration was performed by SL Auto Haus in 2015.  The photos in the photo gallery show the quality of the work.  The roadster has had little mileage added since the restoration work.  There is little patina evident throughout this Mercedes.

It is rare to find a 190SL roadster that was cared for by its original owner for 53 years in the dry climate of Reno, NV.  Its rarer for the example to be in the stunning combination of Signal Red with black leather, two tops and full restored.

This 190SL comes complete with its factory Data Card, original sales invoice, owner’s manuals, the binder of historical documentation, factory tool kit and a terrific provenance.
