This is a gorgeous restoration of a rust-free California El Camino. Our client, Glenn, started with a rust-free California El Camino and set out on a no-expense spared, professionally built custom- just as he wanted it. With less than 1,600 miles since the completion of its build, this is ready for touring, showing and flat out enjoyment. The build quality is top notch and will not disappoint. Here are some details:

The paint and bodywork were performed by Tony’s Auto Restoration in Corona, CA. The quality is fantastic!

The show quality custom interior trimwork is all custom and was performed by Frank’s Hot Rod Upholstery in Temecula, CA. The cockpit has a “Flaming River” steering column and wheel, Alpine Stereo, Satellite and DVD with “Corbeau” seats.

The crate 572 cu in V-8 sounds fantastic. The engine is a GM ZZ572 with 9.5:1 compression, 620 HP and 650 ft lbs of torque for a reliable powerhouse. The fuel injection is by Danzo Performance with Motech Components (the air cleaner is made to look like it had carbs!). The exhaust is a 3″ custom header by “Lemons Headers” with a full 3″ exhaust. The power is transmitted through a GM 700R4 by “Art Carr” with overdrive and 3,000 RPM stall. The rear-end differential is a Ford 9-in by “Currie” with 3.73:1 gearing.

The front-end suspension is by “Global West” and the rear end is “Hotchkiss & Edelbrock”. Meanwhile, stopping this El Camino is done by Wilwood and the cool looking American Racing Wheels (front: 235/55/R16, rear 325/50/15).

More details will be forthcoming. In the interim, look closely at the photo gallery. For more details please email us at sales@classicpromenade.com or call us at 602.245.7200.

This motorcar was not just built, it was engineered. Many customs don’t drive well and have numerous challenges afterwards that never get sorted. The engineer and owner, Alan Hodges, is a perfectionist and an absolute engineer. He made sure that everything was done to ensure perfect performance and drive ability first and foremost.

With 340 HP to the rear wheels this non-matching numbers 396 performs brilliantly. During the test drive Mr. Hodges took the El Camino at speed through a tight corner and there was no body roll, at all. It reminded us more of driving a Porsche 911!

COMMENTS:

THIS CAR WAS BUILT OVER A PERIOD OF ABOUT 20 MONTHS. MR. HODGES WANTED TO KEEP THE SS AS A STOCK UPDATED OR RESTO MOD. THERE AE A FEW CUSTOM PARTS HE MADE MYSELF BUT FOR THE MOST PART THE CAR HAS A STOCK LOOK. THERE ARE NO RUBBER HOSES ON THE CAR WHATSOEVER. ALL LINES ARE STAINLESS OR BRAIDED. ALL FITTINGS ARE A.N. RIGHT DOWN TO THE RADIATOR, EVEN THE BATTERY CABLES ARE MADE OF A HIGH QUALITY STEREO 1 GAGE CABLE. HE DID NOT REUSE ANY OLD HARWARE, ALL NUTS AND BOLTS ARE NEW AND 90% STAINLESS OR CHROME. INCLUDED IS A PHOTO GALLERY OF COMPLETE RESTORATION.
