This 1948 Buick Roadmaster Series 70 Sedanet has had four owners from new and has accumulated a mere 37,000 miles. She is a lovely survivor, being restored only as needed. The sleek body lines of the rare Sedanet are enhanced by her lustrous dark green livery which is beautifully complimented by her gorgeous original light gray Bedford cord cloth upholstery. This is a rare and beautiful Buick that would be equally enjoyed on tours or local car shows.

The Buick Roadmasters were beautifully designed by the legendary head of design at General Motors, Harley Earl. This Roadmaster was purchased new on September 20, 1948, by WWI Veteran Carl Hurner for $3,282 from Vinton & Larsen Sales and Service in McMinnville, OR. The original sales invoice is included in the sale and mentions its new Dynaflow transmission, seat covers and 3M undercoating. Mr. Hurner kept her for 25 years when she was acquired in 1972 by Glen Stafford. Mr. Stafford had her repainted at Ted’s Body Shop in Great Falls, ID in 1985. Mr. Bengy Kuehling acquired her from the Stafford estate on February 19, 1999, with 36,206 original miles. The current owner acquired her in 2010 and has driven her approximately 1,200 miles. She currently has a total of 37,445 from new.

This Roadmaster’s livery is Buick Verde Green (Paint Code 48-04) and has a deep, lustrous shine. Her 1985 repaint still looks very nice today with only a couple of small touched up chips that are only noticeable upon close inspection. Her chrome and stainless-steel trim are in very good to excellent condition. The chrome has been re-plated as needed and the grill and other trim are in excellent condition with no pitting and only very minor scratches from normal use. The front bumper is enhanced by a beautifully chromed and rare Van Auklen bumper guard. Her wide white wall tires and wheel covers make an elegant statement and show well. The sleek lines of the Sedanet are complemented by the fender skirts and the abundance of chrome and stainless accents. Overall, the exterior is in excellent show and tour condition.

The Buick’s interior is largely original, and her Grey Heather Bedford Cord upholstery (Trim 76) is in very nice condition. The gray cloth upholstery beautifully complements the striking Verde Green livery. She has lush dark gray carpets which were replaced by the previous owner and show very well with very little wear. The dash and instrument panel are a stunning two-tone gray. The instruments are silver finished, and all gauges are in working order and show very well. Her interior comes complete with an optional Sonomatic AM radio, antenna, heater, analog clock and an under-the-dash GM brand chrome tissue dispenser. Overall, the interior is largely original, well optioned and shows well throughout.

The engine compartment is very clean and nicely detailed and painted throughout. Her 320 cu in Fireball OHV Straight Eight produces 144 hp and is equipped with a 2-barrel carburetor. The power is transferred to the rear wheels through her 2-speed Dynaflow Automatic Transmission which shifts well and performs quietly. The valve cover has been repainted and displays the red “Buick Valve-In-Head Fireball Dynaflash Eight” stickers. The engine compartment shows very well throughout.

This gorgeous Roadmaster is accompanied with the original owner’s guide, titles from two former owners, the original sales invoice from 1948, the original dealership sales letter, the exterior repaint receipt from 1985, a lubrication receipt for 1956, an original Buick Roadmaster magazine ad and the original Buick polishing cloth.

This 1948 Buick runs and drives beautifully. With her well-maintained history, stunning design, and low mileage, she would be an excellent addition to consider.

For more information and details, please call, text or email Harry Clark at +1.623.404.9042 or sales@classicpromenade.com. This Roadmaster is available for inspection at our Phoenix showroom.

Complete photos, videos, and inspection report available at www.ClassicPromenade.com.

This is a sympathetically preserved 1948 Buick Roadmaster Sedanet (Style No: 4707) which has been owned by our collector client for the past 10 years. The owner is a longtime collector in North Hollywood and has enjoyed an interesting collection of significant cars.

This Roadmaster was built at Buick’s production facility in Southgate, CA (C-1084) and originally sold through a dealer in Long Beach, CA. In fact, this is 115,118th Roadmaster built.

This Roadmaster is also believed to have only one previous registered owner. The current owner purchased this car about 10 years ago through McCormick’s Auction in Palm Springs, CA. It had been sold by our friend Steve Snyder of Vault Cars in Orange County, CA. This Roadmaster has remained in an underground parking garage in Pasadena, CA ever since.

This Buick has an older repaint in an attractive two tone combination of Cumulus Grey (28) complimented by Nickel Grey (23). The roof still shows quite well with good shine, luster, and depth. There are some signs of cracking on the fenders, as well as very small paint chips throughout the entire body. The chrome work is overall in good to very good condition, with lots of shine and minimal imperfections. The cloisonne on the front and rear emblems are presentable, but showing age. Likewise, the whitewall tires are showing signs of yellowing and we recommend the next owner replace them.

The interior is a mix of some very well preserved original features and some long ago new items. Overall, there are many areas of the interior that are showing significant wear and/or age. The attractive and stain-free Grey Heather Bedford Cord seats (Trim 76) are very nice and comfortable. We did not notice any signs of significant wear or warping. The dash, headliner, steering wheel, and gauges are overall good to very good; they present well and are free of any major blemishes. The carpeting, weather stripping, door jambs, and shelf behind the rear seats, however, do require attention. These components are either worn, stained, or otherwise in less than stellar condition. However, it does not greatly detract from the appeal of this Roadmaster.

Mechanically, this Buick is in good running condition. We were unable to perform a test drive on the car, other than moving it around the parking garage. Our impressions were fine. The car started right up, ran and idled smoothly, the transmission shifted into gear with ease, and the brakes felt solid. The owner has also informed us that the car does drive well, but that the clutch has a tendency to make a “noise” when coasting in first gear.

This Buick has been reasonably well cared for. The fuel lines have been coated to prevent vapor locking. The lighting systems and horn function properly. The owner informed us that speedometer and odometer are not working. The actual millage is unknown, but it is believed to be around 165,000 miles. We did note that the tires are old and likely in need of replacing. We would also recommend that the next owner do a full fluid flush on this car before a longer drive.

Overall, we found this to be a very charming Roadmaster which would show well at a local or regional car show. It also has the potential to be a very fun touring car with a small amount of work.

Details about this Roadmaster’s condition are included in the 158-point inspection report which is published as part of this listing. This car is located in Pasadena, CA.
