This is a rare and desirable 1961 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II H.J. Mulliner Drophead Coupe that can be shown or used for concours or touring events. It is one of only 25 original LHD HJ Mulliner drophead coupes made over the three-year production run of the Silver Cloud II and is an original LHD, U.S.-specification car built to H.J. Mulliner’s Design No. 7504 Adaptation. This air-conditioned Rolls has benefited from substantial restoration by marque specialists and has been restored as needed.

This Silver Cloud II was ordered by Mr. Samuel G. Rautbord of Chicago, being delivered on August 29, 1961. The build specifications included LHD, Whitehall Grey exterior with Red pinstriping, Scarlet interior, power windows, a rear center armrest, and a heavy-gauge frame. Mr. Rautbord owned the Rolls until his passing in 1979. Around that time, Mr. Lewis Rudin acquired the Rolls and enjoyed it through 2001. After Mr. Rudin passed, his wife, Mrs. Basha Szymankska, kept the Rolls in her collection until 2019. While under her stewardship, the Rolls was mechanically recommissioned by Automotive Restorations of Stratford, Connecticut, in 2015. In 2019, Mr. Elliot Cuker acquired the Rolls and continued the restoration through Automotive Restorations, completing a repaint in Porcelain White and installing a new Everflex convertible top and new carpets. A Massachusetts dealer acquired the Rolls in 2023 and had it serviced by expert Mr. John Robison. Over $150,000 was invested in its restoration.

The exterior of the Rolls is in overall excellent condition. The newer Porcelain White paint was in excellent condition and was wrapped by its present owner in Black vinyl. The wrap can be removed by its next owner, returning its exterior to Porcelain White or keep it as it is presently. The newer Burgundy Everflex power convertible top is in excellent condition and comes with a newer Burgundy convertible top boot cover. The chrome brightwork is in excellent overall condition, with only minor cosmetic imperfections from normal use. The Rolls sits on newer wide whitewall radial tires with Black-trimmed wheel covers.

The interior of the Rolls is in beautiful condition and is has many original features. The newer Burgundy Connolly leather interior is in excellent condition, with very minor normal creasing from normal use. The burl walnut dash is original and in good condition, as are the front and rear picnic tables. The wood veneers are in very good condition, but there is normal minor lacquer cracking on its surface. The newer Burgundy Wilton wool carpet is in excellent condition. The Rolls has rear “boot” air conditioning, a radio, and a clock; all of the instruments and gauges function well except the clock. The interior is beautiful and in overall beautiful condition.

The engine and engine compartment and chassis are beautifully detailed. The venerable 6.2-liter V8 has wonderful power and is very quiet and smooth. The four-speed automatic transmission shifts well through the gears and delivers the power effortlessly. The Rolls starts easily warm or cold and is comfortable to drive. This Silver Cloud II needs nothing to be enjoyed!

This Rolls comes complete with the owner’s handbook, most of the small and large tools, build records, and historical restoration and service records.

This is a gorgeous example of the rare and desirable 1960 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II HJ Mulliner Drophead Coupe. This is one of only 74 original drophead coupes made over the three-year production run of Silver Cloud II’s. This is a 37,590-mile example that has been restored over the past three years. It is also unique (1 of 1) in its present configuration with the Carriage House adaptation of the traditional Lucas R-100 headlights and a unique continental kit. The Carriage House modifications were reserved for celebrities such as Debbie Reynolds and Lucielle Ball. This is truly a unique opportunity to enjoy a beautiful Drophead.

This was ordered by the New York-based Inskip on September 30, 1959, and assigned chassis no. LSRA19 and engine no. 172AS to be a US delivery HJ Mulliner Drophead Coupe. Special Heavy-Duty frames were used for the convertibles as specified on the build sheet. The Rolls-Royce was delivered to HJ Mulliner to commence the adaptation to the coveted drophead coupe. The completed car was shipped from London to New York on February 20, 1960, aboard the “Benny Skou”. Mr. Oliver D Appleton of Mt. Kisco, NY received the Rolls on May 4, 1960.

By July 13, 1976, the Rolls was acquired by Carriage House in Manhattan, NY. LSRA19 had accumulated a documented 33,000 miles from new. Carriage House was a renowned Rolls-Royce dealer that made custom bespoke modifications to cars on behalf of its clients. Many celebrities had such modifications made and these examples are rare and desired. Carriage House installed the classic Lucas R-100 headlights, and a custom rear mounted spare tire.

Classic Promenade acquired LSRA19 on September 1, 2021, and commenced a restoration. It was obvious that the Rolls had 37,000 original miles, but it had been repainted with a two-tone exterior and interior and required recommissioning from lack of use. We commenced a bare metal repaint in its original Masons Black (Paint Code 501) and added the original Deep Red pinstriping. The black paint is gorgeous with mirror like shine and finish. The black Everflex power convertible top is in very nice condition and is stored under a Black top boot cover. There were no needed rust repairs as the body and undercarriage were rust free. As per its original specification, new wide white wall tires were sourced. There is a flag mast under the flying lady mascot that can accommodate a flag.

The interior is presented in Special Red Leather, as per its original specification, which was installed in 2024. The leather is gorgeous and is complimented by its beautifully refinished burl walnut and new matching Red Wilton wool carpeting. Even the headliner was replaced in the original Special Red broadcloth. This Rolls has its original dealer installed air conditioning and its original AM/FM stereo. The interior is beautiful and stunning next to the Masons Black livery.

The engine and engine compartment are beautifully detailed. The venerable 6.2-liter V8 has wonderful power and is very quiet and smooth. The four speed automatic transmission shifts well through the gears and delivers the power effortlessly. All servicing and rebuilding of components has been performed as needed. LSRA19 commands the road like a true 37,000-mile Silver Cloud Drophead Coupe and is a pleasure to drive.

The Drophead comes complete with its large and small tools, original owner’s handbook, all the original factory literature (radio, convertible top, accessories and more), and original factory records and documentation. All instruments work as they should, including the clock and stereo. This Silver Cloud was ordered with power steering and electric windows in addition to the power assisted brakes and air conditioning. The three-year restoration is in its final punch list finishing details.

For more information and details, please call or text Harry Clark at +1.623.404.9042 or email us at sales@classicpromenade.com. This Silver Cloud is available for inspection at our showroom in Phoenix. We are pleased to coordinate inspections, and we help coordinate shipping worldwide. We also have financing partners if you are interested in financing.
